Question regarding Warhost

There seems to exist a Fantasy Expansion for 'Barons War' called 'Warhost'. Is that an independent expansion or would I need to buy the core rules as well? Does someone have experience with that ruleset?

You need the core rules to use it.

It was written to be fully compatible with version 2 which is due out this month

It is an add-on to the core rules.

But I've not played either set.

Yes, I am aware of the second edition coming out. I actually wanted to ask also if it is just compatible with the first edition or not but forgot to. Looks like you guessed that question anyway and answered it
