It has also to do with their design limitations, they can’t shell out as much for mould making as the larger companies, so they had to settle for a small sprue. They had set the requirements for a launcher a flamer and multiple laser/plasma weapons. As well as extra heads. If you put all of that in a single sprue you end up with this. I agree that perhaps a two sprue work, bodies on one and arms on the other, selling them to your own mix so that you will always have enough weapons of the type you want would have worked. But it would have cost a lot more to start with for them.

In any case at the price they are I am very tempted to pick them up for whatever they will end up serving as. Goes on the list of to buy once money is available.

I'm quite happy with what I've seen, and am planning on picking up a box or two.  Their dark ages and Zulus just became quite attractive as well, $19.99 for 32 miniatures is quite a deal.  The former are likely going to be used for some historical fantasy gaming, while the latter will become Barbary cannibals.

That been said some of their stuff does look a bit dodgy......  I wasn't too happy with the Zombie Sprue, the figures were very hard to put together properly, and the faces lack the detail I find on metal zombie miniatures.  I was considering doing some head-swaps, but due to their size that wasn't feasible.  I'd like to snag some of the British from the Zulu wars line, but the figures don't look quite right.  It would be nice if they sold single sample sprues, so I could see for myself before committing to a box set.

I don't like the plastic that WGF uses (the zombies are a straight PITA to assemble because of it).

I grabbed some of their Zombies and used them, with parts from Darkson's AE-WWII Emaciated Troopers, to create some more Zombies for my Weird WWII games. I didn't really notice any issues with the plastic they used.

Their vikings are decent too.

My problem w/ WGF is as they are starting out (and admirably trying to keep costs low for consumers), there is not a whole lot of selection.

For example, I bought 80 vikings a while back. I've made due but having small viking war bands duke it out w/ each other.
Then they announced they were releasing Saxons! Awesome but they were using the same torsos and arms. Maybe I'm being unrealistic but I wanted a little more variety.

So what will the opponents of said Sci-Fi Troopers look like? Or are you expected to have them battle with armies from other miniature compaines.

They still look good tho.

The background they're developing (as I understand it anyway) is pitting the gas-masked government 'Shock Troopers' against hordes of zombies in a post-apocalyptic, tunnel-clearance/area cleansing kinda scenario.

There are supposed to be some un-infected survivors who are either scavengers or zombie-hunters (or both), but my understanding is they've been delayed while they concentrate on getting the 'great-coat sci-fi troopers' out.

There was also talk of putting different helmet-types on the sprue, so that you can make up sprues as different factions that can fight each other. Don't know if that came off though, I lost interest after a while.

That's essentially what they did for the Saxons, different heads and shields....gets boring after a while

Well, I like these, and I'll probably use them as Scutarii for the small force of Adeptus Mechanicus I'm going to make for some 40k skirmishing. (I think Scutarii was the term for the 'IG' support of the Titan Legions? - and yes, I know it's a term for some ancient troop type).

They'll serve double purpose for this and Pulp/WWWII

As for the likeness to the Artizan ones: I'll probably get those too, and use them together, so to me it's rather an advantage.

There you have it - every man his cake  ;)

The sprue has 3 different kinds of heads on it, more actually, but 3x3 so that you can equip the entire squad with them; Darth vader style, flat face plate and big eyed mutant style.

And if your planning on doing a vs game with both sides consisting of these  guys you would have enough of the laser weapons to equip one side with those and the other with the assault rifle things.

I agree that WGF has had multiple failures or flaws in the past, and I think they should have started with units like these troops. They offer more leniency then historical models. And the gamers who are interested in them are more lenient as well when it comes to it.

As a side note I wonder how these will combine with SOTTR loose heads.

I dont know about the regular stuff but I do know that the SOtTR zombie heads are too big for the WF zombies.

I am reasonably flexible with a little scale "stretching" in the case of zombies (I dont mind that much if they sometimes look like they are actors in large prosthetics, like the Deadites from the Evil Dead movies or similar) but the SOtTR heads are just too big for the small WF zeds.

It will be interesting to see how large or small the greatcoats are.

Skitarii, yes.  They'd be a great choice for them.

Rifle is growing on me; its not really removable so I guess I'll have to suck it up.

I thought these were also meant as a cheap alterny to Death Korps of Krieg IG.

Sprues!!!!   :o

I like that the guns are attached to the arms.  The GW plastic kits with the separate guns always frustrated me, be they Space Marines or Imperial Guard.  I like the look of the rifles, they have a strong SF element, but give my figures are going to be an Iron Sky force that's not a issue.  The detailing on the heads is fantastic.  I'm going to be exclusively be using the coal scuttle with gasmask, so I'll have some lovely bits left over.

Conversion wise, I'm hoping the WWII Germans in the works are built along the same way and scale.  I'd love to combine the two plastic kits to make some very Weird WWII baddies.  Kicking around somewhere I've got some Secrets of the Third Reich heads, they worked for the Cadian conversions, I'm sure they should work for the Shock Troopers.

Sprues!!!!   :o

I think that those look quite nice and they are useful in a variety of roles.

The bullpup configuration on the rifle always helps with a sci-fi feel to me for some reason.  The only part of the sprue that I have concerns about is the bare faced, bare head: it looks a little "mushy", not unlike the heads from the zombie sprues.  The rest of it looks great I think.  Assuming that the figures arent too far on the small side then they will be a great resource.

I hope that WF do well with these.  Regardless of the execution so far I really think that there is room for eclectic and cheap sprues like those that they are producing/ planning to produce.  Good luck to them.

Skitarii, yes.  They'd be a great choice for them.

Definitely good for Skitarii (which were called "Praetorians" when first mentioned in Codex Titanicus circa 1990 trivia fans).

I don’t know why, but I’m hoping to find some wide brim helmeted heads for these guys. Probably would buy a pack or two of them, find a suitable opponent force and write a little savage worlds showdown scenario for them.

Something like the heads on these?

I have a load of those sitting around if you want them (the heads that is).  Those figures are just a tiny bit smaller than most 28mms so the heads should be a good match with the WF Shock Troops.

PM me if you are interested in a few :)
