Looking for a Bank (Terrain)
« on: August 04, 2025, 02:50:23 AM »
I'm hoping someone here can help me, I'm looking to add a bank to my collection but haven't seen any that I'd like. I'm looking for something along the lines of the reference images shown below. Not a copy, but something in these styles.

Hyakujusan Bank Otaru Branch (1908)

Bank of Hokkaido Otaru Head Office (1912)

Bank of Japan Otaru Branch (1912)

Karatsu Bank Head Office (1912)

Nijusan Bank Oita Branch (1913)

Yamaguchi Bank Shimonoseki Head Office (1920)

Yokohama Specie Bank Moji Branch (1934)

Bank of Japan Hiroshima Branch (1936)

I have one of these:

https://3dpv.co.uk/products/wargaming-terrain-large-urban-house-d-various-scales-historical-wargaming

Quite a useful building, could be a bank, a government office, residence of a big wig etc or a small palace.

Of course if you want something really imposing, then they do this one as well.

These are flat pack constructions, very well made and go together easily. You will get better deals on their Etsy page.

Speaking of Etsy, there's a seller from Turkiye in there who produces superb MDF kits. They're nominally 1/64 scale but that's easy to ignore. Search Etsy for Tmatolyem. He does a couple of early/mid 20th C buildings that would work with your setting.

Here's one:

I imagine you could use a number of apartment block, city-style buildings. Here's one of the many Sarissa Precision MDF ones I've painted up:

Or this TTCombat one (though it is not designed for the 1st and 2nd floors to lift off):

Not specifically a bank, but could be used as one...?

This is the advantage of building from card; you can make something to fit your situation, as with the Bank of Ascension:

The "stone" frontage is made of cheap 2mm thick card:

With the (many) mistakes hidden through painting and weathering.

The side walls and windows and doors are printed textures, which are quick and easy to use and look realistic with some care. One theme of Ascension is the impressive façade at the front, hiding ugliness behind, and my buildings reflect this.

Sarissa Precision have many suitable buildings, especially in their WW2 Europe range, pre-painted and costly though.

If you fancy going down the card buiding route but don't like the idea of designing your own, you could go for a downloadable kit that you can scale to your needs.

Change of signage should help.

Of course there's always the Plasticville Bank or even their 'Union Station'

Both available as 'O gauge' buildings.

Thanks for all the support, I'm going through all the suggestions and trying things out now. I've not heard of some of these before and others I'd forgotten about as options, like the model railway buildings.

I was going to suggest Plasticville, it can be tricky to get hold of though - NB, the Plasticville bank has a drive through banking thing on one side, I turned mine into an ATM.

Charlie Foxtrot do one... maybe not as grand and imposing as you're looking for but still nice.

It came out nice but looks like it took a lot of patience to build! How long did it take?
