80 years war 3d sculpting project
« on: 17 September 2025, 07:41:19 PM »
The last few years I've picked up 3d sculpting miniatures as I always wanted to have a crack at creating my own minis. I thought this thread could be a nice place to try something new to log and share my progress with you all on my latest project as I work on it.

The minis are going to be printed at 28mm scale and should be suited for the 1620-1640s or thereabouts, which would lend them well for the latter part of the 80 Years War and for other conflicts like the 30 Years War of the English Civil War in a pinch. I'd like to sculpt enough minis to make two small warbands for a game of En Garde.

The first WIP is a musketeer

2nd WIP is a more gentlemanly type which will have a sword and a pistol, but needs a bit more work.

I'd like to get run a print for these guys in the coming week and see how come out and paint up.

Like what you have done, & am keen to see how it all turns out.
Are you thinking of eventually selling figures?

Thanks for the interest guys!

Here's a little update on the sword and pistol man.

I think I might put these and other minis stemming from this project up on Cults3d for a few euros. That being said, the minis I make I tend to make out of interest in sculpting the subject matter rather than for commercial gain. The fun of creating my own miniatures is the main goal for me, if I can pick up a small amount in sales to fund my printing or hobby in general thats nice also.

They look absolutely amazing. And you're working hard on convincing people to get a printer.

I did a few test prints on the first two miniatures over the weekend to see how they turn out and which bits need some more work to 'work' in the physical form as opposed to on my screen while sculpting them. One conclusion from the test print is that the swords, scabbards and some other details need to be chunkier to look good at 28mm, so thats one thing I am currently working on adjusting.

In the meantime I am also working on another swordman, just look at that hefty blade!

More test prints and photos of the printed minis coming up!
