river features
« on: 29 September 2025, 07:39:14 PM »
I'm working on a bridge to go with my side of table river (here) and water mill (here) and just before I tackle the water (which will invariably mean redoing the water on the watermill and the 3 river sections), I should see if I need to do any further sections...

so suggestions please for any suitable add ons that would work for a wide/estuarine river bank of any period really, although as you can see, it's rural and temperate at least... I'm not averse to brickwork docks or anything, it's just the slope need gets in the way.

I'm thinking maybe a slipway or a ford... thoughts?

Pilings from an old pier, maybe:

Fuel barge (but you would probably need to build a dock then):

Or how about an old abandoned boat:

I've a wooden dock area (the wider river with a small optional pier that sticks out already). I reckon a smaller wooden bridge might be a good thought...

All that came to my mind was a ramp like earthen bank that'd serve as a ford, slipway or drinking point for animals
My LAF Gallery is HERE

A little fishing pier maybe or a small ‘recessed’ bit of bank for catching fish with baskets (monks used to do similar if I remember correctly).

A low weir also for mainly catching fish would make an interesting element.

IIRC eel traps can be interesting structures

An area of dubious ground, a mix of open spaces, reeds, ponds etc - it looks like you can cross it, but should you try? Think Grimpen Mire in Hound of the Baskervilles. Ideal for escaping the Revenoo and trapping those not from these parts.

I've got seperate marsh pieces, the way I've got my river means I can't do resin on it (or rather I don't want the hassle) and the marsh bits are very resin dependent... but I do intend to add to those...
