Privjet, Towarischni!

Weeell, yesterday, my Pardulon Tank arrived in the mail, and I am very, VERY happy with it - it´s a lovely, high-quality kit, with very little flash which was easily removed. Highly recommended. I plan to use it as a centrepiece for a "Bolshevik Russian Army" for Back of Beyond Games - in first attempts, I never got far beyond sixteen Sikhs and a batch of Brits.

I replaced the cannon because I didn´t like the proportions and style, but the original pieces are well-cast; just a personal preference. The new "field howitzer"-type guns are a bit on the large side, but look pleasingly "russian" to me.

The paint scheme is rather unimaginative, but what else to use for 1920s/early 1930s Bolsheviks than olive or Russian green? I chose a brownish-olive, and added some red stars in a deep "gory red", so that they are visible, but don´t act as "shoot-me-posters".

Finally, I added a semaphore apparatus from plastic scraps. This will be a command vehicle (I´ll paint one of my British Light tanks as one of the 20 or so Russian-bought ones), so it shows, and is more practical than an 8-inch pole for wireless telegraphy. Although that would be nice, too.

Man, you are quick! When did you get it, yesterday?

I really like the semaphore thingie. I hope you don't mind if I steal the idea for one of the "optional parts" sets  8)

Thanks for the correction. I used the transliterator found here: http://www.woron.de/translator.html

Of course, I wouldn´t have a possibility to check it out. But I won´t bother much about it. Maybe I´ll correct it, otherwise, it´s "Pulp Cyrillic".

Yup, yesterday at noon, my lovely letter lady dropped the parcel by my place... with some models, I just HAVE to do it NOW. But the painting is rather easy, just a darker olive-brown for a base over white spraycoat; then, wetbrushed using mid olive-brown, and a final coat with a hint of skin and white added. Then I painted the tracks dark brown and used the paint, watered down, to wash some areas. Final metal drybrush, and hey presto.

As for the semaphore, go ahead! If you wish, I can send you some images to act as guides, as the actual item looks a tad bit different from my rendition.

TEUTONIC EFFICIENCY  :o

I love the tank. I love that you picked a simple paint scheme and let the tank stand out by itself. Your choice to change the gun barrels also worked out really well.

I'm in awe.

What a fabulous creation of colour symbolising the purest essence of Bolshevism in this juggernaut.  :)

Well Done too you.

Now a neat tank commander to compliment the tank.

God Bless

Helen
Best wishes,

No they don't. Vikotnik's was in Hatay* colours.

Top stuff, Chris. Looks fantastic.

Working for the Germans, all for the price of a few baubles and a "Chrolls Chroyce Phantom Thrrree"... :D

I had actually pondered painting it in German WW1 three-tone Splinter camouflage, but the model just didn´t look "German" to me. Either a Brit or a Soviet. As well as that; just as Helen and Pete pointed out, the "monotone" scheme doesn´t detract too much from the "bulkyness" (Wuchtigkeit, for the Germanophones, as I´m not too sure "bulky" fully conveys what I´m thinking about) of the beastie.

On the tank commander, that´s why I left the hatch open - now to find a suitable mini in a suitable pose. Maybe I´ll have to sculpt one...

Images would be great! The semaphore apparatus would be just the thing for my own command tank:

I like the battleship grey look you've got going there, Zafarelli. Makes it seem very much the "Land Ironclad."

Now you have me sitting here, looking for naval camo patterns instead of mowing the lawn. Tells a lot about my attitude towards gardening, I guess.
