Who is this guy with stick?

"Hunters and Explorers Club" need Gatling for Lost World expedition. I have Gatling from QRF and britidh gun crew from irregularMiniatures. The problem is i dont know the function of this guy with stick on the left side of pic.

His job is to traverse the gun with the aid of that trail spike he's holding.

OW! I thought his job is to put cannon ball and blackpowder bag in cannon, but this cannon is breech loading, so I was confised.
What do you think if I use for gatling 4 crewmans :1 marching brit as shoter

1 kneeling brit with ammo (I will paint it like gatling cartridge) and 1 brit with stick and 1 artillery officer?
