Rivets, how to

Had a search and can't seem to find it mentioned,

What is a good technique to make rivets?

Thanks in advance.
Saving the last bullet... just in case.

I prefer round-head rivets, so I subscribe to the dabs of epoxy method.  (I tried white glue, but it spreads too much.)

5-minute 2-party epoxy. Dip toothpick into mix, then touch to model. Stays tight, doesn't spread. Repeat 500 times.

Repeat 500 times.

And the rest, never enough rivets - ask Thunderchicken.

There are as many ways to do this as skin a cat. Keep searching as most have been covered on here at one time or another. The "How To" in Workbench and the VSF boards are where I would start.

I'm currently using dress makers pins. The heads are 2mm across and you can just push them into things.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm rivets.

Nice find there Jimbib, I'll put that on the wish list.

Depending on how big you want the rivets to be there's always googly eyes. You'll find them on e-bay and I think they start at 3mm. Once they're painted no one will ever know.  ;)

If you're using thin plasticard, or metal sheet, you can push rivets into it from behind with the tip of a file or length of metal rod or somesuch. Just do it on a somewhat soft surface (most "self-healing" cutting mats do just fine).

It's what I did for the banding on the end of this tube: Link to pic

A recent discovery of mine is Archer surface details. These are resin rivets and welds that are printed on a decal backing. They come in various scales and appear to be as easy to use as any decal. There are literally hundreds of them on a sheet and are applied before painting so the backing doesn't even have a chance fo showing. Check them out :

Has anybody tried to mold a model with applied rivet decals? Is the bond strong enough to resist the silicone? Could I use the rivets without the transfer paper by picking them up with an Exacto and glue them with superglue?

Great idea that... a little expensive but definately worth a try!

One must not forget the marvellous home made rivet strips Svennn produces in his scratch building dungeon deep underground in a secret location just off the M1.

just incase no one knows but you can buy 28m rivets.... Jed at Antenocitis workshop sells them http://www.barrule.com/Workshop/scratch%20builders%20paradise/Augmentables.html i suppose they would be fine for one off models.....

Smooth headed rivets just over 1.5mm across - ideal wherever you need rivets scaled for 28mm. 100 per pack

 ???

My problem with those rivets is, that I have to cut them of the sprue and sand them flat one by one.
Also 1.5mm across is too big for "realistic" rivets in 28mm ;) I use 0.4mm rod mostly.

I would immedeatly buy bags of plain rivet heads smaller than 1mm...
