The figures look very inviting, but this is the first time that my interest in the period has been attracted.

What rules are being used for this type of game. Apart from the "Last of the Mohicans" movie, what sources (books, magazines, etc) can anyone suggest?

My gaming group has just come back to playing F&I after a few years and we are using the "Sharp Practice" rules by the Too Fat Lardies. A fun enjoyable set of rules covering black powder skirmish.

I've been meaning to d/l 'SP' and check it out.

Do they have special rules for Indians?

It has rules for Indians of both the North American and sub-continental varieties. I have not yet used it for F&I, but I don't think it would take much tinkering if any at all.

Yes there are rules for North American Indians, can be either a War Party or Hunting Party, and they have some nice special cards as well.

I notice from the website, that you will be doing armed settlers in the near future. Will you also be doing women and children sets for the settlers?

I was going to do women among the armed settlers for defending farm-houses/settlements etc first, then women and children unarmed.

Or would a pack of armed women as well packs of armed settlers be better received, what do you think chaps? I'll have to say right now, whichever way it goes, some will think the other way would have been better  ;)

Armed women are a firm favourite of mine. Bound to sell well  ;)

Also armed children.   ;)

"Rescue the captives" seems to be a popular scenario and as well, a small group of armed settlers defending a cabin until the rangers arrive would be a good scenario to play. You could do a "colonel's plucky daughter" figure for a Last of the Mohicans type fight.

I would like to ask if you (galloppingmajor) has in the future the idea to make some figures for winter campaigns.
most of the little skirmishes and raids were done under deep snow.
it will be very nice to add some figures cladded for the winter , what do you think about?

I would vote to keep the settlers seperated... doing packs of armed settlers and seperate packs of unarmed settlers.  I would really love to see a set of settler captives!  The settlers would have fought in a family unit so an armed pack with adult men and women fighting, and then maybe some women loading, children loading or carrying loaded muskets, etc.  A group of only armed men I would call militia instead of settlers...

I'll buy them anyway  :-*

Personally I would prefer armed women, and perhaps even a few armed children, or at least children carrying or loading firearms.
Settler captives also sounds like a splendid idea for smaller skirmishes, but most of us will buy only the one set. Of course if we ALL buy a set it might still be a good seller.
