Another 15mm Adobe & some Bandidos
« on: March 13, 2010, 02:46:27 AM »
I got inspired by Smokeyroan's Scratchbuilt Abodes and made one of my own. I still need to add some weathering powder around the lower part of the wall and onto the awning. Also added in some of the new Blue Moon Mfg 15mm Wild West Bandidos. They come in the "personalities" pack. I did a quick block paint job on them and a Minwax dip. Still need their bases finished. Also added a pic of the mounted "One-Eyed Fat Man". I really like these new Blue Moon 15's. Loads of detail and character. If only I could paint worth a darn ;D

That's the style, Joe!

Foamboard, with spackle/plaster, I see, but what about the exposed brick?  Clay or putty or something?

Blue Moon just rocks!  They were the ones that pulled me into horror and pulp gaming, and now, they are hooking me up with beautiful 15 Old West (in brilliantly conceived sets) figs

Are you going to do a saloon?   I always liked saloons, cantina and taco restaurants, so my town will have several.
That BM Saloon set is nice.

I like the red and white awning, festive looking.  It made me think of havving pennants and pinatas all over, for El Guapo's birthday party or something.   :)

Did you look at that Friekorps link from the other post?  Lots of Mexican civilians and bandittos so compliment Blue Moon.

Now, we NEED Tuco, the Man with No Name, and Angel Eyes in 15mm (sculptors, I'm talking to you!) :D

LuckeyJoe, looks like you and me are the only folks gaming the Old West in the "One True Scale".  :)

I saw a 1/100 model train at our local hobby store, for @ $250  :o  Know anything about Blue Moons 15mm electric  train set?

Hi, Smokey. Thanks. I drew heavily on your design, as well as Malamute's and Wolfgirl's from the Pulp thread, Jules' idea of applying thin plaster over cork, among others. That's one of the nice things about the LAF, no shortage of inspiration and great ideas.

I didn't use foamcore on this one, though. I went the easy way. :) They had these little cardboard boxes at Walmart. I used one of those for the shell of the build, then glued pieces of cork coaster tile to the outside of the box, extending about a 1/2 inch above height of the box. (I had already cut out the window, door and damaged section from the cork.) Then used vinyl spackle. I applied it in a very thin layer in some spots to use the natural roughness of the cork tile. The brick in the damaged section was done with a thin piece of art foam, just scribed the bricks with a a pencil and glued that into the hole left in the cork. Also used a chunk of art foam for the trap door on the roof, scribed to represent boards. The awning and  curtain in the window were inspired by Wolfgirl's curtain (though mine are not nearly as nice). I have "Box of Rags" I bought a while ago. It's full of heavy gauge paper towels. I draped a double layer strip of towel over the front roof poles and painted it with watered down Tacky Glue. When dry, I painted on some stripes.

Yeah, I really like Blue Moon, too. I have the 28mm Mummy set for Chaos in Cairo. Beautiful minis, so when I saw on the Hawgleg forum that Blue Moon was making 15mm Wild West I had to get some. My only problem is I had also just got some other companies' "true 15's" and they don't fit in too well with the Blue Moon.

I like the idea of "El Guapo's birthday. Now I just need to paint up the "3 Amigos".  :D

I'd like to see a Tuco and Angel Eyes, too. There is a "Blondie" in the personalities pack, as well as a "Bat Masterson", and a "Wild Bill". I hadn't seen the Freikorps link, thanks. I'll have to check that out.

I scratchbuilt a saloon a couple of weeks ago. Here's a pic. I'd like to see some of yours, especially the cantina.

As far as trains, I've been thinking of getting the Peter Pig one from Brookhurst Hobbies. Like this:

Arrrhhh, one eyed fat man. That's Marshall Reuben J. 'Rooster' Cogburn one of my childhood western heroes. Best John Wayne ever!

Oh, well he was a one-eye fat old man... :D

I was really jazzed when I got that Blue Moon personalities pack and saw the Rooster model. Thanks for that pic.  :)

I have Rooster Cogburn in 28mm from Crusades Miniatures, though I've never gotten around to paint him - yet.

I'm starting up some 15mm Wild West, so hopefully I'll soon post some pictures in here, (and I'll probaly get the one-eyed fat man from Blue Moon very soon). :D

That's a nice looking set of minis. Does it come both mounted and dismounted or do you have to buy them separately?

I think you will like the Blue Moon Minis. I'm looking forward to seeing your pics.

Luckyjoe and Smokeyroan, you are not alone!  I'm whole hearted into 15mm wild west.  Have loads of them - including a sizeable herd of buffalo (sorry, not anyway near painted and ready for photography - assuming I can stumble my way through that swamp).  One really great find, sadly through the loss of a good friend last year, was the Atlantic Wild Bill Hickock set with lots of buffalo, including young buffalo.

Being new here at LAF, hope I'm not creating some sort of faux-pas by posting to an older post.  (hazardous red letters up there above me but, then, we adherents to the "one true scale" have got to stick together. ;D

By the way, what rules do you use to game the wild west in 15 mm?  I've tried LOTOW and its popular locally but not really what I'm looking for.  Have Hey You in the Jail and Yellow Ribbon and am shooting for something of a hybrid between the two.  I'm not looking for man on man skirmish but being able to do much larger engagements with hordes of figures.

Once painted (after the pirates, lads, after the pirates), I'll be ready to game a variation of my primary inspiration for wild west gaming - The Hallelujah Trail!  o_o

Hi Fifteens away!

Glad to have another gamer and 15mm enthusiast here!

I play "Gutshot"for Wild West, and TSATF mostly for colonial and crossover games  (my terrain and figure collecting so far has been aimed at Old Mexico, SAW, and Colonia  l"what ifs?" like Mexico vs the US in 1880's, US in Africain the late 1800'sand such.

So I am collecting and painting hordes of Old Glory, Essex, QRF, Peter Pig  and such figures

Who made your Buffalo?

Smokey,

My Buffalo come from several sources: Peter Pig, Freikorps, Irregular, Stone Mountain (long time ago), Hovels (I think), pretty much everyone who made them I bought some to create a diverse herd.

I'm famous, or infamous, for putting lots of animals into my games - and civilians.  If you've not done it yet, get over to the BlueMoon 15 mm site and check out the Warpaint range.

Civilians!  Yessss!  I love lotrs of civilians (some combatants, some victims, some just scenery)

I have a list of all 15mm civilians suitable for Colonial, Old West and similar periods.  I'll dig it up and maybe you have some additions.
