CLA - Assault waves
« on: April 16, 2010, 05:48:44 PM »
How does the Assault Wave order work in Contemptible Little Armies? ("Orders", p. 42 of CLA 3rd ed.) Does a unit with that order have to move forward every turn? Can't it stop for a couple of turns to fire, allow tanks to keep with them, etc?

After reading some reviews at LAF and TMP I expected CLA to be confusing and even poorly written, but I read it last night and I don't think that was the case. Is this 3rd Ed. very different from the old ones? Of course I have some questions, but I think I understood most of it with a first quick read. I've found CLA more interesting than "Warhammer The Great War", which has a similar scale and approach, so I'd love to give it a try this summer.

No. The idea of the assault wave is to drive the men forward (remember, this is WWI style fighting where the men went over the top and raced forward --- since sitting out in the open was always a bad idea). The only shooting will be done by the support units until a unit has reached its objective or failed a morale test.

And glad you found the rules easy to understand. I thought the rules were great (which is why I bought the rights to them) and just needed a bit of organization to make them better.
