Very American Civil War battle report
« on: April 17, 2010, 09:06:10 AM »
For those of you that missed it, we had a game at Great Escape games store in Sacramento CA. to launch the ACW 2 campaign.  We used Rampant Colonialism rules, which are still up for grabs as to being the best set.  The game was played by Jim Clarke, Nils, Mike Werner and Mike McGraw.  Several others came over and watched.

I will let the below listed press releases discuss the actual events.

Sacramento Bee

Civil War erupts in town of Freeport!
In a stunning display of naked aggression the Fascists of the "Nationalist" party fought the people of Freeport supported by the Communist party and their foreign Soviet supporters.  After much pointless bloodshed on both sides the people of Freeport held their ground and after destroying many of the armored cars of the attacking Nationalists.  Several of the Foreign agents of the communist party were killed, as well as some local agitators.  Most of the armored cars on both sides were wrecked in the battle as they fought each other in what began to resemble a civil war ironclad naval battle.  At the end of the day the silvershirts left almost intact to froment trouble again.  The Bund lost a great many of their men and 4 of the 5 silver shirt armored cars stayed on the battlefield as smoldering ruins.  The communists armored cars were somewhat better off with two still somewhat functional and 2 complete wrecks.  Unfortunatly our reporter was unable to take any photos, his camera having strangely turned into a telephone.

Freeport Freedom Press

Brothers Unite! The brave men of the Freeport Freedom Fighters, lead by our friend and neighbor, Atticus, held off the attacking forces of the Silver shirts, the Bund and their assorted terrorist thugs.  Barely in the fight, but offering support was the Central, California, Communist Party (CCCP).  Our Russian Comrades, were in the thick of the fight and left many martyrs to the cause on the field, including the fair Natasha, gunned down by a dastardly Bund sniper.  Not only did our brave fighters drive the invaders from our soil, but caused them to leave behind a great many of their armored cars, that can be reapaired and returned to the fight.  It is a great day for the international cause.

[Nationalist Pary Heradquarters    Message of progress.

Although the Red Menace still exists in Freeport, and there was much material loss, the forces of the Nationalist movement will triumph!  Our allies the Bund, both the Modesto and Sacramento chapters, failed in their mission to support our brave Lindbergh Legion silvershirts.  The armored cars were a disappointment as well as they neglected their duty to kill communist troops and tried to kill other armored cars.  Their attempt at glory was rewarded with a noble death or worse capture by Reds!.  Luckily we did manage to destory a great many of the foreign agents that have mislead the people of Freeport into communist ruin.  Our armored cars were able to strike fear into the enemy when they shot down an entire Russian technical advisor and lewis gun unit.  A lucky shot from a Bund marksmen took out another Russian harlot, the imfamous "Natasha".  Only the need to protect the retreating Bund prevented the Legion from complete victory [/color

HEY!  You would have been overwhelmed if the CCCP wasn't there to support you.  You took a lot more casaulties than we did, & we took out more armored cars than you did.  Your ungrateful behavior will be reported to COMINTERN, & then see if you get any more support for your cause.

As was typical of one of one Leadfool's battles, there were about 200 figures & 7 armored cars on a 4x6 board, all from his very extensive collection.  But that just meant there were more forces to fight & more fun to have.  I think it was more a game to test the Rampant Colonialism rules.  We found that the multi-stage morale model in RC was difficult to maintain, so may go back to trying to modify the Valor & Steam & Flesh rules.  OTOH, we're all eager to try T&T as part of Doc Twilight's Kublacon game.

Don’t try to forget them, the Daleks are waiting
Quietly planning and scheming and hating…

Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. Wish I could've been there. We also played an ACW2 scenario on Thursday, in this case another battle in Kentucky.

I'm looking forward to running the game. We are currently testing a few different rulesets, so we may actually end up changing from T&T once we've decided we've found a set we're particularly keen on. I do like T&T, and that's still the plan. Essentially, some of the group is unhappy with the way it handles armor, so we're exploring other options. Anyway, the game will still happen, irregardless.

Doc, what other rules are you trying out?

BTW, we figured for the KDF, all the armored cars needed to either have #3 The Intimidator on them, or be painted like the General Lee from Dukes of Hazard.

Leadfool, corrected & official report of the Battle of Freeport will be forthcoming.  It will be filed as part of the post-battle Comrade Requistion Report to be submitted to the COMINTERN home office.

Sounds like a good time was had by all. Wish I could have been there.  :)
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

TO: CCCP Central Committee
FROM: Acting Head Commissar of BattleGroup Notgoodnick

Greetings to the leaders of the people's cause.  I submit this post-battle report with mixed feelings.

Unfortunately, Natasha, champion of the workers everywhere, was gunned down by the degenerate Silvershirts.  As always, she was in the lead of the red wave crushing the fascist Nationalists.  But a cowardly sniper cut short her glorious life.

Do not despair my fellow travelers, in the spirit of her sacrifice to the cause, the rest of the CCP forces continued to push forward and we won the Battle of Freeport for the Freeport Freedom Fighters.  While the FFF did inflict casualties on the left flank, they were only fighting against the Sacramento & Modesto Turn Verein Bunds, irregular militias with surplus WW1 equipment at best.

Our CCCP forces on the other hand, not only held the bourgeois Silvershirts at bay, but also incapacitated 1 of their armored cars, while the proud 4th Platoon of the Woodland Collective gloriously captured one of the cars with only their bare hands.  With the Bunds slinking off the board, we finally pushed the Silvershirts back, thus ending the Battle of Freeport with victory assured by the CCCP.

A portion of all the Battlegroup's soldiers' money rations will be withheld to raise a fitting monument to our glorious leader who fell as we know she'd have wanted to...  Leading her fellow workers against the tide of fascist tyranny.

Long Live the Proletariat

Sounds like a fun game - and I am glad that the BG Notgoodnik is doing the correct thing and honoring Comrade Natasha.
I have a cunning plan... as cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University.
