Perry plastic WOTR and other news...

Well, just back from Salute, where I had a chat with Alan and Michael Perry, and the news is:

WOTR 2nd box (Mercenaries) - main frame gone for tooling, command frame not quite finished yet. At least 6 months or so before they become available. I reckon we'll be lucky to see them much this side of Christmas.

Happily, there will definitely be a 3rd WOTR plastic box, and it will be fully armoured cavalry (mounted knights). Hobilars and lighter cavalry types will be made in metal. No ETA on this 3rd WOTR box, but sounds like at least a year away. Maybe by next Salute!

Meanwhile, the two mystery 'next boxes' will be:

1. Plastic Ansar for the Sudan - generic bodies, with lots of head, shield and weapon choices to enable Arab / Beja / Hadendowah tribesmen all to be built from the same box.

2. ACW zouaves. Not my thing, but the couple of 'three-ups' they had on display looked rather nice.

My nephew will be interested in the Zouaves, he's Perry ACW mad, he is.


I need a Zouave NCO-type body for my own nefarious Darkest Africa purposes, too. Perry would be a perfect match, as he'll be wearing a Perry or Foundry Sikh head when he's done. Maybe I can cadge something off the young 'un.

Good news anyway:
Mercenaries still in the making - the later the better, I don't need a new project any time soon.
Plastic Cavalry - so the Perrys don't limit themselves to island struggles; very useful in so many ways.
Ansar - maybe good to have some plastics to bolster Darkest Africa or even Ancient or Medieval armies.
Zouaves - can't bring myself to this period, so a lot of money spared.

Since I'm working on ACW right now, I think the Zouaves will be nice.

I was on the point of buying some Foundry Zouaves to blend in with the Perry infantry.  Like their hussars, I hope they come with a selection of headgear to make just about any unit; kepi, fez and turban.
