searching for slaine and conan miniatures
« on: April 25, 2010, 02:27:04 PM »
Hi there all you fine folks...

In preperation for this year's "Horisont" (in denmark), I need to find some suitable miniatures to represent both Conan and Slaine (more information will follow at a later date), but it seems to be a harder task than I first imagined...

Foundry does make a pretty good Slaine (version 4), and also a nice warped version too, but it is a bit bland and not very actionposed, and on top of that, it's horribly expensive  ;) i tried looking through the celtos range, but even though some miniatures came close to be acceptable, they just didn't make the cut... can anyone help me find a better option than the foundry one? The miniature needs to represent slaine before he is chosen as king and gets all the shiny weapons etc.

Conan is a bit easier, I think I'll buy the "not conan" named wolf from Hasslefree, but i'm open for other/better suggestions, also, if someone can tell me if the foundry slaine scalewise would be ok stading next to a hasslefree hulk?

any help is much appriciated  :-*

Doing a Slaine project myself, using Celtos, Chronopia, and various others. Waiting eagerly for my Warped Slaine to arrive!

Can I get a link to the Slaine miniature, please?

One miniature is too many, and a thousand are not enough...

There vare some very good "Conan-alikes" in the old Grenadier range available from Mirliton, should you change your mind:

Celtos Gael: They go well with their predecessors from Chronopia´s Sons of Kronos range and make cool Slaìne MacRoth figures.

Sounds like you are not going with the Foundry ones anyway, but I wanted to point out that I was quite surprised when I saw the Slaine The King from Foundry this past weekend at a local game store - it is fricking huge and out of scale with any others you might game with, closer to 54mm than 28mm.

I'll second the Grenadier/Mirliton barbarian line for Conan (that's even my painting on the one shown here :) ), there are several that would work well.

I got mine from Battlefield Berlin. I have another similar which I can sell you cheaply if you are interested.

Can anyone tell me more of this? It sort of differs with other information I have?  ???

Hammers: Do you have a closer photo? Extremely nice diorama btw  ;)

They also had the Slaine holding up the spear and sword, and that one was more 28mm sized. Perhaps the Slaine the King I saw was some kind of special edition (this is the one where he has the two handed axe held at waist level and the spiked hair).

Heisan Agger,

I have this two from Foundry, but they are realy big and more like 40mm than 28mm.

I would have made a comparison pic, but they are still in germany.

I also have the "Young Slaine", which is nearly the same as "Slaine No.4", just with a little wilder hair, more fur on the boots etc.
I have him with me, in one of my boxes, so maybe I can make tomorrow a pic of him.
But he fits nicely in the 28mm scale.

My personal favorite, which I still have to buy, is this one, and I think he's also in scale.
At least you have to make a little weapon sweap ;)

For the warped Slaine you could also use one of the Possessed of GW's Mordheim range.

If your searching for more figs which will fit in as Slaine-related charas, that one from Resina Planet will be a good basic for an "Balor of the dreadfull eye" conversion.

And by the way, the mini Hammers used as his Conan is that one from Andrea Miniatures

I have also one of the Ukko minis from Foundry I can offer, because I have two of them.

Hilsen

I have this one. About 35mm to the top of his head. AA I think, maybe Harlequin?
