Help painting Witch Hunters
« on: 04 May 2010, 03:05:20 PM »
I am currently in a F&IW game where we added monsters and ghosts, etc...

I am painting up some 'Solomon Kane' looking fellows,(the Adepticon Witch Hunter, www.adepticon.org/ scroll down about half way) ( Black Cat Bases http://blackcatbases.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=437_599&products_id=1896) ( Black Army Productions http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc178/Mithras77/100_0964.jpg) (Helldorado's Missionary) ( Reaper's www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/dusk/sku-down/02861 ) (GWs Warhammer Quest's Witch Hunter), among others...

But it seem weird to paint them all the same. In the same Black and white style of clothes.

Any ideas how to paint them a little different?
Thanks.

Try highlighting each model's black with a different grey or brown - keeps the uniformity of the Puritan black but gives a subtle individuality.

Lots of Puritans would have been quite happy to wear bright colours, but if you feel that doesn't suit the look you want, how about natural, undyed browns, greys and creams?

I'm gonna disagree with the esteemed SteveF here; I reckon if they're Puritan witch-hunters, you don't really have much choice. Black, white, and brown are what you've got to work with. Puritans really weren't into display, the really extreme ones (such as might become witch-hunters) considered colourful cloth sinful. Actually sinful, as an expression of Pride. They be likely to burn people in colourful clothes (especially badass fictional witch-hunters). You might get the odd dark red or dark green doublet-type thing, but I reckon in general you're looking at sombre colours.

If they're the Holy Inquisition, however, you have more choices. High ranking Catholics have traditionally favoured red or that wine-purple colour bishops wear. Or you could have a bunch of crusading monks in a variety of different robes and hoods - white, black, black and white, grey, brown...

I am having a hard time not making a monty python joke. Anyhow, In my mind, partially because of that sketch I guess witch hunters should wear read at least sparkly if not more.

I think the whine purple look, for me at least, is more of a priest thing, to me it suggests nonaggressive behavior etz.
