I think that the idea is solid, although I would suggest considering giving your wizard and apprentice more gadgets and whirlygigs, and perhaps a big backpack filled with Curious Items of Wondrous Technological Artifice.  Perhaps their firearms could be "tricked-out" with multiple barrels, telescopes, etc., in order to represent an array of different spells (shot, flamethrower, a concussion device (for the spell that pushes the enemy back, and so on).

I'm not sure what sort of spells you intend to take, but the possibilities are endless:

Leap - spring boots, or a steam-based jetpack (or perhaps DaVinci inspired wings).
Shield - forcefield generator.
Strength - a clockwork arm frame that increases strength.
Heal - medical kit
Reveal invisible - a souped-up telescope with gears and a crank.
Grenade - a bomb (obviously).

Haughty treasure hunter (right) and clockwork knight (left).

Back of the clockwork knight (medium construct). Was an interesting challenge to create a very static pose on this one, but not as challenging as working with those fiddly gears. Based on a historical example, I might add: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonardo%27s_robot

Where by chance did you get the gears for this guy? Really like how that looks as a construct.  :) Also, getting a friend into gaming who really likes steampunk so I see myself getting some mileage out of those in the future.  lol

Thanks people. They might get postponed ever so slightly with yet another warband having to be finished in between (as this band is nearly identical to one another guy at a local campaign will be playing - in terms of rules, that is, figures are pretty unique I'm sure!), but these quite likely will be next! I suppose it's only fitting for a warband featuring Leonardo that it is one of many projects done at the same time, and will takes ages to finally get finished!  lol

Actually got them for free in a order from Hasslefree - they like to insert some random gifts in the packages. Had almost given them away, thinking I had no need for them any time soon: and then this project and idea came along! Looks like they're from these packs: http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?category=accessories~steampunk-stuff
