An unpleasant surprise in the Sudan?
« on: May 15, 2010, 01:52:40 PM »
I decided to use some spare Perry Beja figures with the Gardner gun left over after I canibalised the crew for my Heavy Rocket {In an earlier post} to make a nasty surprise for Phil and Jon in some future Sudan game. Hope you like the idea.

Great stuff! The crouching warriors work really well as the crew and is an excellent idea.

My Beja have a couple of captured Gardner and Krupp guns, but due to their incompetence, they have always been completely ineffective and rarely survive more than a couple of turns without being destroyed by the British artillery  ::)

the Gardner gun and they have - oh shi-!!!"   ;)

Nice piece (until I'm on the receiving end perhaps :-[) it really captures the feel of a certain painting.

Heh, I just saw that painting you're thinking of this morning in an issue of Military History. You're absolutely right. Unfortunately, it wasn't credited.

Great idea.  Those figures worked really well for the crew.

Nice. It will give the British a taste of their own medicine… but did the natives load their captured Gardner backward? ;D

Calimero is right, the bullets are supposed to stick out of the front of the loading tray.  Seems you could either break it off and re-glue, or just chuckle about how mechanically misguided those Fuzzies are.

1. They are only poor benighted heathens so its probably all they can manage.

2. The gun was painted Foundry Storm Blue shade and dry brushed with mid Storm
    Blue.
3. In my defence, its only an occasional token in a game and it 'will do' for us.

4. If anyone is interested I've written my own rules for the Sudan War. Copies are available for £10.00 plus P&P. Send me a pm if interested.

David, what sort of figure scale/unit size are you using? I assume you have individual casualty removal etc? Maybe posting a precis of the rules here would save doing the same thing several times in pms

I'm always interested in good colonial rules  :D

"I'm always interested in good colonial rules."

Then you will be interested in mine.  ;)

There is no figure scale. Units are sized to suit your table space/vision/budget. Figures are based in groups which might represent several different scales of formation according to your whim/situation/budget/interests. Ask Phil, he's played with them a lot and knows them as well as I do, plus he'll be more unbiased as he's not trying to sell them! :-I

Sweet!

(although when they have state of the art guns, instead of old, crappy muzzleloaders) how do I handle the "Ansar artillery blows up on a 1" firing rule  with a straight face?  I think the Mahdist player is gonna call me out on that one.  :?
