SURPRISE! out of the blue WHH releases Over the Top
« on: 01 August 2011, 08:56:07 PM »
Just got the WHH email that says OTT is availasble for order now.

and so it is: http://www.warhammer-historical.com/acatalog/The_Great_War.html#a60040286005

"From the pen of The Great War writer Alex Buchel comes Warhammer Historical’s next release - Over the Top. This supplement covers the period during the First World War from 1915 to 1918, adding a wealth of detail to its parent rulebook.

Over the Top contains a full year-by-year overview of the 1915-18 period, new Battalion-level army lists for British Empire, French and German forces, and a new army list for the American Expeditionary Force, including the Devil Dogs and US Tank Companies. It also contains detailed rules covering such actions as assaulting a trench line, or leading a hand-picked party on a trench raid, as well as background missions to set miniature wargames within the larger backdrop of some of the greatest actions of the First World War.

New rules are included to add to the scope of The Great War, including Heavy Artillery, a new Command and Control mechanism and full rules for fighting Big Battles: engagements such as Loos, Artois, Passchendaele, the Somme and Vimy Ridge, and this full colour 176-page, softback book is lavishly illustrated with maps, colour photographs of period militaria, and both colour and black-and-white photographs of a huge selection of miniatures and scenery.

Over the Top is available to order now for immediate despatch."

Seems like for ever that I've been waiting for this!

Just ordered my copy too  :)

I stopped playing these rules when the expansions didn't arrive.

Still no love for the Eastern Front? How difficult could it be to write some army lists for the poor Russians and Austro-Hungarians?

Keep an eye on Scarab minis who will be producing a set of rules for the Great War in Italy. As for the Russians there are a set of unofficial lists on the Scarab site somwhere also on the Great War site although the unit a rather large. What about making up your own lists for the Russians and Austrians, the armies are not that unusual re platoons and such, quality wise they could run from Terrirorial class to Veterans.

Do you seriously think that they'll ever get that far?  ::) I expect that this'll be the first and last of any WHH Great War supplements...
I told you so. You damned fools.

My copy came today and so far looks good.  Must say at £20 it seems much better value than Kampfgruppe!

Typical! I sold my copy of 'The Great War' rules a couple of months ago because I was convinced the promised expansion had died a death  ::)
...and what fresh new hell is this?

Don't play this period but bought the original rules for the eye candy which GW always does well.

Will probably pick these up as well for the same reason along with the Gladiator book!

With 3 books out in the space of a few weeks maybe this is the start of a regular release schedule - but I wont hold my breath as I'd probably turn blue!

I think I remember reading that Forge World/WHB policy is only to sell direct from their website!
