WOTR Rules - Coat of Steel
« on: June 12, 2010, 02:58:46 PM »
I've been perusing Coat of Steel by Perfect Captain. For a free set of rules (with a campaign supplement too!), they're packed with lots of period add-ons and look like they could really provide an interesting change from the generic rules that seem to be about. No idea how the play, but if they have put as much effort into the rules as everything else, it should be good!

I'd love to play that, especially the campaign system. Ever since playing "Kingmaker" I've thought this period would be fantastic for a boardgame style campaign combined with tabletop battles. All I need to do is somehow trick Blood into giving me all his figures, as there is no way I'm going to start painting any myself.

Small thing, and I know it is only a schematic map, but Wigmore isn't halfway to Brecon, it's only six miles from Ludlow. I went to school there.  :)

I've used Kingmaker as the basis for solo campaigns to generate tabletop battles. I like the system so well that I've cribbed it for my own use and made up my own island kingdom map and sets of cards (a la KM style).

It seems that even a straight on slug-fest would still be interesting with the variety of options available. They seem pretty well researched too, so your commanders have character that has a bearing on the game.

Kingmaker was an excellent game and does give the basis for a campaign system... I'm guessing that it also provided some inspiration for the Crown of Paper system too.
