As the title says, I'm looking for a van suitable for painting up as the Mystery Machine for my 28mm "not the Scooby Gang".  Anybody got any suggestions please?

I stumbled across a die-cast one a few months ago.

It claims to be 1/32, but it's not. It's made by Jada Toys Inc - Amazon link

I'll try to get a picture of it over the weekend next to some figures.

If you try “28mm mystery machine “ on eBay a lot will come up in various sizes and prices. I saw at least one 1/64 which might work. Crooked Dice used to make one but I don’t see it anywhere on their site. It might not hurt to contact them.

Jada stuff can be pretty good I'd consider that one.  I have a couple Batmobiles, GI Joe Vamp and Cobra Stinger.  They're packaged with larger 1/48'ish (or bigger) nano Metalfigs, but the vehicles are often slightly smaller than that and well suited for 28mm.

I'd love to see pics of it next to some figures.

Pictures as requested :)

The other vehicles are a Mantic pickup truck and a Tamiya 1/48 Japan Light Armoured Vehicle. The figures are the Hasslefree Post Apoc Scooby Gang. I am planning to buy the non-apocalypse ones, assuming the Hasslefree website ever comes back up :(

The Van has a windscreen but no side windows and is held together with screws :D (I hate rivets, it's almost like they don't want people to modify them)

Fred's head is level with the bottom of the side window, so it's definitely a climb into the van. The other dimensions are fine, and the height isn't glaring. I usually go by the seats and steering wheel and those are fine. Overall, I'd put the model at 1/43, definitely not 1/32, and fine on the table. It has the added benefit of having all the decals, which is the bit that stumped my own plans

Thanks for the picture!
Scale of a cartoon van all depends on what you think it's based on.

If it's a vintage VW or Ford Van from the 60's (most likely), then it's probably pretty accurate for 1/32.  Those vans are pretty small and this towers over 1/56 figures.

If it's a current cargo van, then it might be 1/40 or 1/36 looking at the size of the doors or as small as 1/43 based on the wheels.

Really though, it's the centerpiece for a cartoon crew and even if it's a bit "too big" I think it looks great.

There are a couple free stl versions on thingiverse if you have access to a 3d printer. They are robust models and can be printed in PLA or resin. Someone has already posted etsy link to the model by Mr Big Tong but if you want the stl you can get it from his patreon. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3412098  https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2882554 https://www.patreon.com/bigmrtong/posts

Armorcast used to sell a resin one. The Clue Contraption. I have one and it is good scale. Someone also made water slide decals for it. I will try to research where I got them.

I seem to remember a plastic mystery machine full of sweets being sold in the confectionery aisles of UK supermarkets and possibly stores like B&M/Home Bargains. From memory they might have been a suitable size for 28mm. Might be worth checking out if anyone still needs one.

I think there was some unintended thread'omancy here as Thargor's original thread was from 2011.

Interesting options for the mystery machine though.

Yeah, I thought the same, but then left it up as this is a question that is asked every so often anyway.

Go to Black Site Studios' Modern Vehicles, scroll down to The Mystery Machine.  Pretty nice.
