WWII Armored Fighting Suit......Group Photo Added
« on: August 24, 2007, 12:31:05 AM »
Just finished a "alternative" WW2 armored fighting suit. It's a "Bauhaus Vulcan Battle Suit" by the now defunct Target Games ( Warzone).

I've been trying to think up a suitable name.
My knowledge of German is....... well nothing really! :?
If Panzer Kampf Wagon is "armored fighting vehicle" would "Panzer Kampf Klage" be "Armored Fighting Suit"?
Also , how about "Eisenschildkrote" as a nickname ( Iron Turtle).

Ahh, the joys of automatic translation  :)

"Klage" translates into (law)suit, as opposed to the thing you wear. "Panzerkampfanzug" would the word you are looking for. And it abbreviates nicely into "PzKpfA Ausf B" or something.

I'm not too sure about "Eisenschildkröte", though, it doesn't really roll of the tongue. How about "Eisesnfrosch" (Iron Frog)?

Oh my god, that sand tone is amazing! Far more fitting than my take on the subject from last year:

 ;) Makes me want to finish my squad of those!

On the name thing. I named mine PzKpfA (Panzerkampfanzug) II "Bär", since my lighter "powered armour" thingies were named PzKpfA I "Wolf".

"Eisenfrosch" is very cute. "Eisenschildkröte", like Zafarelli said, doesn´t really "roll", I´d guess because there are too many syllables. Maybe "Stahlschildkröte" (steel turtle).

I´d like to point out, though, that reptiles and amphibians where not really in favour for naming purposes, "warm-blooded predators" being a more popular choice. The above are very good, though, but I´d rather think of them as inofficial troops´ nicknames, not official "Suggestivnamen" like "Panther", "Tiger", etc. None of those would be good for the lumbering bulk of the Vulcan, though. Of course, you could just use a alphanumeric code, like PzKpfA II, and no official name, like it was the case with the Panzers I to IV.[/list]

Thanks for the feedback, I told you my understanding of german was "0" points!!!

Auto-translators are handy but do throw out some bizarre stuff.
I quite like the " Armored Fighting Law-suit" , especially when the pilot falls over without wearing an approved helmet!

Interesting comment about names normally being "predators". I think you're bang on about it being too bulky to have a nice "fast" predator name. I will probably just stick with "PzKpfA II" etc.

I love Eisenfrosch ( Iron Frog) as a unofficial troops nickname for the suit.

Chris, seeing your BAR painted up in dark colours reminded me of a large beetle. I know there was a "Wespe" ( Wasp) what about " Stahlkafer" ( Steel beetle)? It's got a cool sound to it.

Thanks

If ve get a gut laugh out of it, you are excused, Herr Mitternacht, jawoll! That´s what Pulpendeutsch is all about! ;) And Armored Fighting Law-Suit is certainly the best one I´ve heard this year!

Exactly what I thought. I went for "Bär/Bear" because of the hulking appearance and huge fist ("Bärenpranke/Bear´s Paw" being an eponymous term in German), but maybe Gorilla, or something? Considering they called the Sturmpanzer IV "Brummbär" (grumpy bear, or something like that), not too far off. Must be a "totemic thing".

It really sounds cuddly. I cannot stop thinking of that plush toy one of those obnoxious South Park characters has. "Little Frog" or something.

Unless they´ve got some "martial prowess" like the wasp, I´m afraid in the contemporary nomenclature, insects were only used in a derogatory connotation (exceptions like "Hummel" for the SP 150mm howitzer notwithstanding)... you know, pests which have to be extermined.

Thanks Chris,
a lot of useful information there!
I think I'll stick to "PzKpfA II Ausf C" and leave out the "Official Name".

Grimm....How did I know you were going to say that!

I really like them. Your paintjob of these has inspired me to get a few for myself. Very fitting. What paints did you use if you don't mind my asking? :)
