Uruk-Hai
« on: 02 December 2010, 09:34:12 PM »
The first miniature that I've painted in a while. The picture isn't brilliant as the bulbs in both my spots went at the same time.

I'm using the two foot rule for this guy, although I'm fairly happy with the breast plate.

What I don't like is the base... I'll need to re-do it, especially the ugly paw print that appears on the picture!

Critique always welcome!

Cheers
Andy

The paint scheme is quite nice, however I seem to remember their armour being a lot darker in colour. (beaten black metal, in fact)

Nice crisp job. These guys and the Mordor Orcs actually benefit from a black or dark brown undercoat I think. One thing you could try is a wash over the armour, like a chestnut to make it look a bit older and rusty. Just a thought. They should look a bit grimier and darker.
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious!!

I like him.

I like shiny armour too  ;)

It may not be accurate, but it looks darn good on the tabletop  :D

Thanks for the kind words all. Yeah I think that i agree that the armour is too polished for an uruk. Believe it or not i started with a boltgun metal-black mix on top of a black undercoat. I worked up to neat boltgun highlights.

I've got a few more to paint, which I'll working on until my dremel arrives. I think I'll try for a much darker armour, maybe even using a tin bitz-boltgun metal base coat and drybrushing black-gun metal on top of that.

Cheers

I think it looks great. If you darken the armour you may find the miniature too dark. If you do want to darken it though, a black wash would bring out the shadows. For future models you might try a chaos black/boltgun metal 1:1 mix and then edge the armour with boltgun metal, then pick out the highest points with mithril silver.
