Hero Clix repaints
« on: September 27, 2007, 02:02:19 PM »
Just started toying with doing some of these. First test paint I just washed the figure with Black ink and repainted up from there. What other methods are used? or recommended?

And does anyone do swaps for repaints?

I've repainted directly over the original paintjob in my three repaints up to date.

There's one I stripped because the paint was obscuring some of the detail.
Others I just added some highlights and shading.

At the end of the day, there appears to be no noticeable difference between the one I stripped and primed and the ones I just painted over, so I don't bother with stripping anymore.

Quote from my website:
"Repaints:

A lot of people have asked me how I repaint Superheroes or the Star Wars minis. If I remove the prepaint etc.
I am not stripping the paint entirely, on particular thick areas I am scratching the paint away with a hobby knife and most of the time I remove the mold lines. Then a thorough rub with a paint thinner to remove all grease and stuff. After that a coat of matt varnish that my colours are better sticking.
That's it."

Most of the time I'm just painting over the existing coat.  If it's an extensive re-paint I'll give it a very thin and light priming.
