3) Good luck selling those 20mm miniatures when the market is drowning in 15mm and 28mm rule systems and models to satisfy everything and everyone.

The market is also drowning in 20mm - it's the 1/72 scale used by soft plastic manufacturers like HaT, Zvezda, Italeri, etc. Valiant do 20mm hard plastic multipose WW2 minis and they seem decent enough.

There's a lot more available for WW2 gamers in 20mm (plastic, metal and resin) than the other two scales.

True, but it's heresy!  :D

True, but it's heresy!  :D

Shame on you!  :D 20mm is the ideal scale for mass combat!

IMHO - wrong scale, wrong price!

28mm is the one true scale of choice  lol and £48 is a joke for rulebook!

Might pick a second-hand copy off e-bay at some point - but I doubt that as well!

I love 28mm, but 20mm has been the norm for WW2 games for a long time (even with FoW's best efforts)  ;)

I'd like to hear some comments from people who have played it as I have hundreds of 20mm figures and vehicles that need an excuse to get brought up to current painting standards. The collection was put aside when I got interested in FOW and learnt to paint in acrylics. I'm guessing its a retirement job though  ;D

I do spend a considerable amount of money on WWII litterature, and a bit less on gaming books. However, if I was to spend that much money on a WWII book, I would only do it if it was specialist litterature, OOP and written by a veteran. This however, I much doubt I would buy.
Regarding Rules of Engagement, I think that the price was justified by the hardcover book, even if the historical part was totally useless. The rules them self are really great in my oppinion.
Tintin - Pulp Adventures in a orderly fashion
Gallows Falls - Western Village
Eisende - Mordheim costal village WIP
Rome - SPQR & Hail Caesar

 lol you are joking right?

20mm (or 1/76th or 1/72nd you choose)
has been around for years... I started gaming over 30years ago using airfix and matchbox soft plastics - there are literally 1000's of figures out there in white metal - SHQ, Battlefield Miniatures, FAA, Elhiem, RHModels, AB figures, Sgts.Mess, Skytrex, SGt Majors Miniatures, Kelly's Heroes, Britannia, Dixons, Foundry (yes i know...20mm!) IT figures, Raventhorpe, ShellHoleScenics(Friend or Foe range), S&Smodels, Lancashire Games... and this doesn't include the crop of new plastics now coming out by Plastic Soldier company or Valient... or any of the old plastic manufacturers...

and this is just the figures... many of the abouve do terrain and vehicles, not counting the many plastic injection moulding companies such as revell or dragon, or the resin manufacturers... or the white metal ones...

trust me, in 28mm you might be lucky to get a model of the halftrack you want... in 20mm you'll be spoilt for choice by any number of manufacturers!!!

for wargaming WW2 its easily THE most prolific scale 8)

one might say, THE true scale  ;)

Amen Brother, amen...  :)

I'll be seeing and using the book in a fortnight, not quite sure what to expect yet but I'm curious to say the least.

johan,
its very pretty with an emphasis on command and morale - unlike most rules where direct fire just kills, in this set you have the choice between the easier to action "supression" fire and the more difficult direct fire/shoot to kill...

i look forward to seeing what you think of it?

And yet 20mm miniatures are a very rare sight - how come? Or all they all hidden away in some secret 20mm only forum?  ;)

28mm is my preference for platoon sized battles, 15mm seems reasonable for large scale battles - I even have some 6mm tanks for epic tank clashes. I always found 20mm to be a bit of a "bastard" in between 15 and 28mm size. Lacking the details of the larger, and the quantity of the smaller. But that may just be me.

Oh, this were the good days we played the Warhammer Panzer Battlerules, which are for free! :D You only need a 40k rulebook. It worked perfect with 3th and 4th edition.  I don't know, what they changed....

And yes 20mm was the common scale. Having a over 2000 point army for ca. 40 Euro.  lol

I have a shed load of 20 mm WWII stuff. It is hidden away. It is older stuff and this is not really the right forum for it.
I painted it a good few years ago and it is not painted to the standard that I paint 28 mm figures to now but there are some amazing detailed figures out there. Have a look at AB figures. Thier figures have more detail and better poses than a lot of 28 mm figures.
The detail on a lot of the vehicles is great too, not just the plastic kits but the resin models are out standing again better than some 28 mm. Have a look at Cromwell models. Not cheap but not as expensive as 28 mm stuff as well.
I may just have to dig my stuff out and take some photos.

yes i think it is! lol

in 20mm you can skirmish or play larger scale games... 28mm for me has always been for GW games. As for there being a secret forum, its no secret - "The Guild" is a wargaming forum with members who have a 20mm bias... much in the same way that Lead Adventure has a 28mm bias - although all are welcome, and a number of folk on here are already long standing members over there (Hi Michi, Hi Johan, Hi Peirs!!!) if you don't look for 20mm figures, then you won't find them... much in the same way that i am less aware of 28mm traders i'm sure...

as for less detail...

are you sure?
