Finnish Weird War II : wich units or heroes ?

Hello everybody,

As i am playing a Finnish WW2 unit, i'm looking to expand his capacities with Weird machines and heroes.
My opponent is using this kind of units against me : http://www.allankieffer.fr/post/2011/02/27/Showcase-%3A-Fallschirmj%C3%A4gers

So i'm asking you fellow gamers and history fanactics, could you give me a hand and help me finding weird heroes or units related to Finnish country or nordic countries (norvegia, sweden,etc...) ?

I have no knowledge about heroes or weird projects of this countries, so if you have any ideas about maybe mythology or anything, i would be more than happy to hear them.

PS :  Even weird machines or heroes from other countries could be accepted as long as they can be "Finlandized" (with Finnish flag or details).

Funny you should mention that. I was looking into this some time ago. You could field hiisi, evil spirits which could be described as goblins.

Well, especially for Winter War, any tank or plane would already count as an oddity...

Stealth suits, vanishing units and ghost snipers could fit the theme. Antti Rokka might make a straightforward action hero. Forest trolls will definitely improve any game. I guess reindeers are somewhat exotic but not particularly useful for other than food, really.

Or maybe you could watch Rare Exports. Coca-Cola ads have nothing to do with the truth.

When suggesting options, don't hesitate to add a link where a manufacturer or a model able to represent this option. It would be very helpful. (I'm gaming 28mm).

I think I would start with Finnish sagas and go from there, there must be a story or 2 about weird creatures, if not some Nordic stuff will work

Sure, although something slightly thinner and gloomier might fit the local style better. Oaks and such don't grow here that well.

We have a common project running over at the LAC(Sweden) board which we call 'Skägglav' (a lichen of the Parmeliaceae type) as it epitomizes mythological creatures of a distinctly Scandinavian type and aesthetic. The intention is to concoct a fantasy game with creatures from the books we read as kids. Troll, jättar, skogsrån, Näcken Mjölkharen etc as they were painted by Scandinavian artists.

The common opinion is that a Scandinavian skogstroll (forest troll) looks something like a GW gnobblar.

If there is an interest we could translate the thread and move it to the common Fantasy board.
