Is the plasticville S gauge the right size for 28 mm?

Is the hangar only available 2nd hand these days?
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Got me one early this year in a toy store in Bielefeld/Germany.

The Scale is not really suitable with 28mm, IIRC it's 1/87 (maybe 1/72), but as the hangar is rather large it's no big problem if you intend to use it with most 1/48 WW1 biplanes or just for scenery. A 1/48 Dakota wouldn't fit in, of course, and even a Curtis Jenny might be to large. My Junkers F13 is definitely to big.

I have the hanger is O gauge and it is still too small for 1/48th aircraft (I have a 1/48th Grumman Goose that doesn't even come close to fitting in).  I believe that the hanger is about 7-8" wide by 5-6" deep.

I'd recommend O gauge for 28mm compatibility rather than S gauge.  I've managed to accumulate about twenty-five O gauge buildings so far, so obviously I'm happy with that scale.

The O gauge hanger is available in the US, if you don't mind the postage costs; that was one of the items in my last order from Bachmann about a month ago.

There are some free 1/144 scale hangar plans here:

http://www.tomtom-net.de/resources/cardmodel/hangar/hangar.htm

These could easily be scaled up to make a nice 1/48 scale model.
They were all drawn to the Keep; the soldiers who brought death; the father and daughter fighting for life; the people who have always feared it; and the one man who knows its secret....

Sorry, but S scale is exactly 1/64 and THE scale for 28 mm figures. 0 scale is 1/43 and much too large for even 32 mm figures. Exact figure height for 1/43 scale would be 41,8 mm.

We had this topic already: http://forum.backofbeyond.de/viewtopic.php?p=25297&highlight=scale#25297

If you go down that page a little, I showed some maths.

Anyway, if somebody is happy with any buildings of whatever scale for himself, that's perfectly ok of course!  :)

O scale in the US is 1/48, not 1/43 as it is in the UK. That being said Plasticvillle (which being aimed at the US market goes with the 1/48) plays a little loose with scale anyway. Only the doors and windows are to a 1/48 scale while the rest of the building is compressed, often dramatically, to fit onto a layout.

If 28mm is 1/56 as is so popular to say now days then 0 and S scales are about equally right or wrong. That being said I too have gone with O scale as it is more readily available.

O Scale buildings work well enough for 28mm figures. The Plasticville hangar is a bit on the small side for planes see my Pulp Hangar post for some shots with Pulp Figures in one.

Hope this helps,

They're very nice!

Are they S or O gauge?

American O gauge

Sorry?  :?:  It would be nice if the world would be so easy, but the hangar clearly is S-scale. Please read:

We are now carrying the S scale Plasticville line. Although these are marketed as "O gauge" they are S scale and some are small S scale buildings. Many have O scale doors and windows but are real nice on most layouts...

This is from

http://www.americanmodels.com/misc/plasticville.html

where you can see nice pictures of most of the buildings in colour.

And to make things even more complicated, Plasticville ranges have been produced in O, S, H0 and N scales  8) :

http://jkutza.home.comcast.net/~jkutza/plasticvillestar.html

This is the Plasticville Collectors of America's site with much more information on this topic.

If somebody thinks about using a plasticville building and is not sure about scale and figure compatibility, I can only recommend to consult the following page with many Plasticville buildings in action with 28 mm figures:

The way the local train guys explained it to me is that O Scale Plasticville really isn't a true scale and that it falls somewhere between S and O.

Hope that helps.
