I'd probably just use cardboard. Denting or slight roughness is hardly a major problem, if you're building war zone terrain. However, for brand new ones, there's also corrugated styrene (random shop link). Evergreen has plenty of ridge sizes and sheets up to 12" x 24".

i measnt a cheaper resin plastic plasrin .........

sorry, i'm having problems on understanding you... :)

@Zaf: yours are AMAZING, and i've seen the sketches some time ago...
But i was thinking about something much more simple and huge... something not for the whide public, just for someone who are already into scratchmodelling =) This way i can provide cheap containers without an excessive expense! :)

the twho are basically two different things, meant for different scopes =)

plaster+resin =boom!! :o

well, plaster has some big issues:

1) it is quite weak during the shipping
2) it is heavy, so you pay more the shipping
3) the detail quality during the gameplay will be erased
4) you take still a lot of time for casting it... at this point the resin is much more convenient!

there are some on terragenesis forum thou they are scratchbuilt  :'(
Could make them, mold them and cast them.  That would get the numbers you are looking for.

There will be the right one from Pardulon very shortly:

@Zafarelli - they're very cool, Jens, but too sci-fi, I just need the usual cargo containers.

@Sangennaru - it's a good idea for sure to make the parts and offer them with corrugated paper. Unfortunately not for me, I need 25-30 containers. I would prefer to get completed ones, ready to paint. Sticking together 30 of them would drive me crazy  :)

Prof - I can recommend the Tablescape set. Lightweight foam, but good castings.

I did a similar trawl a while ago but couldn't find anything in bulk: Tablescape were the best value and quality (I was happy with) I could find.

Well, there are some cargo container shaped stress relievers that are roughly the right size, but I've only seen places where you can buy them in bulk (1000), though some will allow you to order a sample.

I really think the best option would be an open-trough mould which details 5 out of 6 sides (the bottom being blank, and since they would be stacked, it doesn't really need to show detail). An ISO 668 Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) would, in 1/55 scale, measure 11x4,4x4,7cm, and would take up a volume of 230 cubic centimetres.

Depending on the quality of the master, the mould should be quite easy to make, and if one uses a casting material like a plastic-ceramic mix (Keramin or Stewalin), it would not be that expensive while being reasonably resilient. Depending on the cost of RTV, using an inner block to create a hollow casting, wall strength ca. 5mm, would reduce casting material quantity and cost.

If I had the money to spare, I would do it myself (with my limited experience in mouldmaking in casting, although what I've done worked out nicely).

These are the kind I use.   This guy has an ebay store.  They are O scale, so may be smallish but the prices are good $10.50 US for 2.
