The Devil's Wind
« on: 01 July 2011, 05:34:43 PM »
For any who might be interested, I can say that my latest rule set, "The Devil's Wind, for refighting battles from the Indian Mutiny, has gone to the printer's today. I should collect my proof copy on Monday and, baring disasters, they will be going to distributers and stockists later this month. They are full colour, with numerous photographs of the figures in my collection and of games in progress here in GHQ, and will retail at £12.50 a copy, being longer than my previous sets ~ A Good Dusting and Washing the Spears.
I do not sell the rules myself, but they will be carried by the traders who supported my earlier ventures, who report that those rule sets have sold well, and who advertise the rules on Forum Boards and in the Wargames press.
Do buy a copy if you would like to enjoy fast and enjoyable games in two to three hours!
David

I've played with them and was so impressed I bought two armies to use them with.  :D

@Speedbrush.

They look so much better in the flesh.  I was minded to do Zulus or sudan and then saw David's figures.  oh yes, I was sold on it straight away.  You'll love the rules, they play so well and, because units are only removed as a whole, your nice toys stay on the table longer............

Now, I've seen the battle reports, been delighted by the look of the battles and impressed by the way things seem to pan out in a believable way, but am slightly worried that it appears to be geared towards fairly large units on large-ish tables.

Can your rules be played on smaller tables with fewer figures?

I'm hoping to get a big fat YES here  ;)

Hi GM!
My table in GHQ is 7' x 4' maximum. My units have no more than 5 bases of 3 or 4 figures, but you could have less on a base as figures less important than bases in that every base takes 4 'kills' before it is removed/deleted from fighting strength.

I never thought of my table as big, having played once on Colin Rumford's 21' table, nor my units as being large, having seen many chaps with 40 or 50 figure units.

Thanks, David. My max table size is 4x4 - so your 7x4 is large to me  ;) For some reason the units look bigger in your games, but 15- 20 figures would be fine, so it looks like I'll be doing some saving up  :D

If size is an issue.   :o  Then I found that Dixons have a nice range of figures by Tim Hallam in 15mm and QRF in the Freikorps ranges have suitable figures to add to both sides if you're not a button counter.

Had to put in an order to Brookhurst USA for some of Tim Hallam's Wellesley in India range, there are some nice figures there.  Not sure where the moulds are for these but if enough people do 15mm then maybe they might appear.

I've been told that Dixon also has the moulds for the additional 2 Dragons India line by someone who knows Trevor Dixon. I think that's his name.

Yes Trevor is his name.  If these rules take off then maybe he might be "persuaded" to add some codes from that range.
