Yep I have used some of the Perry Carlist civilians and they are spot on size wise.  If you look at the game link 3rd photo below you will see the Perry Senora wearing the black mantilla standing next to my Boot Hill governor figure. She is perfect.

Not sure which Hovels buildings you are referring to?

I am planning lots of civilians next year once I finish the Texian army. ;)

On a serious note there is much more to the Texas War of Independence than just the Alamo. Largely the war is overshadowed by the events at the Alamo and its famous defenders.

You have lots of smaller skirmishes between groups of mounted Texians and Mexican cavalry, attacks on supply trains (the grass fight) furious street fighting during the seige of San Antonio in 1835, the one set piece battle at San Jacinto has relatively small number of troops (only three pieces of artillery) and the Texian defeat at Goliad where the Texians formed a large square and fought of cavalry attacks before surrendering.

The larger than life personalities at the Alamo offer great character driven scenarios for various skirmishes that occured during the 13 day seige rather than the foregone conclusion of the actual assault.

You would not need vast numbers of figures to game many of the engagements listed above. The Mexicn army during the war was divided at any one time and each column comprised mainly infantry, perhaps one cavalry regiment and a handful of artillery pieces. The same goes for the Texians.

The diversity between a professional army dressed and equipped along Napoleonic lines Vs a rag tag bunch of militia and volunteer units dressed anywhere from Dickens fashions to buckskins and Mexican Vaquero dress is intriguing to say the least!

Rules wise I have used Sharp Practice and if I could actually get my head around them they would I am sure work well. I find a number of the rules mechanics very confusing. We have also played Brother Against Brother many times and they give a good game, albeit they lack any period flavour.

Legends of the Old West are fun if you wish to use characters such as Davy Crockett. James Bowie etc. I haven't yet used their massed battles supplement, but will be giving that a bash in the next couple of weeks so will see how that plays out.

Hopefully the above gives you some idea of what you can expect. If you want any advice for the best reading material drop me a PM, I have a very good library at home on the subject. As you can tell I am very passionate about this period and I truly believe its a very underestimated and interesting period of history to game.

Yeh, there is a part in the first lonesome dove (Deadman's Walk) that inspires small scale skirmish - With Texas Rangers, Mexicans, Comanche (Buffalo Hump makes a great character), a dogdy snakeskin oil sales man, a crazy land pirate with parrot and even a big arse bear, plus a Leprosy ridden English Aristocrate! You could even Deadlands things up a bit for the desert walk with rattler attacks, that's your thing!

Those Hovels Spanish buildings are on the small side if I recall as they have been around for a long time, more like true 25mm stuff.
A friend of mine had some when he was having a Sharp style Peninsular craze about ten years ago and they came up small then as he was using Front Rank figures. :?

If you can get hold of them the Snapdagon resin Adobe buildings are perfectly sized for todays larger 28s. Monolith Designs has a decent adobe range which will be fine also. Or scratchbuild them, thats what I did. ;)

I'll be there on sunday, not trading, just shopping :D

I will gladly bring some of the figures along if you want to see them in the lead before buying (with no obligation).
