"Latex" housepaints haven't actually contained latex for decades. These days they're acrylics formulated to be rubbery and durable like latex, but with with fewer long term decay issues. The "latex" naming convention was just kept because companies believed changing the name would cause more confusion among customers then was justified by the practical distinctions. I'd wager the same is true of "latex" caulk.

Do a Google search for "monster mud". It's a concoction used by Halloween hobbyists to strengthen and weatherproof outdoor decorations, which also doubles as a flexible texture paint. Might be useful for this sort of thing as well.

*edit* Make that ""monster mud" -truck", otherwise you'll just get a bunch of off-roading sites.

History viewed from the inside is always a dark, digestive mess, far different from the easily recognizable cow viewed from afar by historians.

Ive been using monster mud of one type or another for many years now for my own home haunt. The first examples, not the latex one, are basically a light version of that stuff.

I love Halloween haunt stuff, but I get so few opportunities to do it. I'm just not in the right sort of neighborhood for it. :(

This is a great idea, the rocks look really nice. Spanky, how did you do the cracks and crevasses in the first pics, did you just slice them into a piece of foam, or did you glue several pieces of foam together?

Both actually. Most of the cracks are cut with an electic knife, which makes fast work of the foam. When i was making my general shape, I saved the smaller pieces i cut off, finished them, and then glued them back on in a different location.

I color coded the one image to give you an idea of what I meant. Each color is a different chunk of foam.
