Looking for cobblestone textured wallpaper
« on: 06 August 2011, 12:00:47 AM »
A plea for help from the LAF hivemind...

There are quite a few pics on here of street layouts where the creator has used embossed wallpaper for cobbled streets, like Thunderchicken's awesome East End London setup.

Can anyone (in the UK) who's done this point me towards the exact wallpaper they used?  I've been looking in B&Q and Wickes so far, but haven't yet found anything remotely similar.  With so many different wallpapers in stock to search through it's a bit like looking for a needle in a DIY store full of needles.

Brand, pattern name.. anything to help narrow down the search would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Dr V

I use the vinyl mats made by lemax for halloween and holiday table displays. They appear at craft stores about this time every year and go on sale around october, sometimes very cheap. Or  you can find them through the lemax website.

I tried this recently with a textured wallpaper purchased from Homebase. Was only £4 a roll. Not sure of any actual name as I threw the wrapping away, but it was in their own cheap range.
I am not sure that this is the type of pattern that you are after, I was aiming for a more low-tech, medieval-type look;

(You will need to scroll down to the bottom for the wallpaper- it is on the board).
Another LAF'er has used this;

A more brick-like effect, not sure if it can be purchased in the UK, though. Might be worth a try if that is the effect you are looking for.

A guy from Germany has used this;

Hope this helps, but if not, I am sure someone on here will point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the comment Mr V  :)

I get mine from Homebase as I couldn't find any in B&Q. There is a small section with embossed budget wallpaper, anyone who works there should be able to direct you to it. I've just checked my roll and it's not branded in any way. If you get stuck send me a PM and I'll send some to you.
Don't!

Thanks for the lead, TC.  One expedition to the nearest Homebase planned for first thing Monday Morning.

Where are you based?
We still have a couple of local stores in Scarborough that are not part off major chains. We don't have a Homebase though.
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

I'm based in Manchester, which put the nearest Homebase about ten miles away in Altrincham.

I think I tracked down the right stuff in the bargain basement embossed wallpaper section.  The one I picked up is a weave on the front, which is the basically the inverse of what you want for cobblestones.  But if you flip it over and use the back...

Ten minutes cursing in front of the wallpaper aisle before I figured that one out.  Doh!
