I'm ploughing towards the end of assembly for the half dead, with only two figures left. Then I'll be swapping the green stuff, clippers and files for paint and brush once again. I'm hoping to have the unit painted by the end of February, which for me is a laughably optimistic deadline. Still, there's three already done...

Here's the latest batch of bog mummies.

The running fellow is one of my favourite models from the entire unit. Originally the legs weren't in a running pose, but as I'm keen not to have some non standard zombie poses in the unit (yes, I know the guy on the extreme left is classic zombie posing, but you have to have one, don't you?) I adjusted the feet a bit so he looks like he's jogging along at a fair clip. I'm also pretty happy with the torso/head on this lad. Originally a grisly trophy held aloft by a ghoul, I think it makes a great basis for a bog mummy with the chest all disintegrated. Lovely.

So, the next update will be the completely assembled unit, then it's painty time.

The Fairly Dead Lads are LOOKING GOOD...relatively speaking! I love the positioning of the Guys; they have a fine dynamic feel to them. They should paint up TERRIFIC. Have FUN with the process!

Not a major update, but the unit is all assembled! I can put aside the scalpel, green stuff and clay shapers for another while and take out the brushes again. Putting these models together has been very enjoyable, indulging my undead Celtic bog mummy habit. I'd had that unit in my head a long while, it's nice to have it translated into reality and stood before me on the painting table. With three models already painted, I've a good idea how the rest of the unit will go. First off though is the slaver filler, I really want to see some paint on this guy. Even before that though, I'm going to get the move tray out of the way. A dull job, but at least with that done I'll have somewhere to put the models as they are painted!

After the half-dead are painted I have another character primed and ready for the brush, a low level wizard this time. Already though, I'm thinking of the next unit I want to build. There's the marlwyrm riders (skullcrushers), the warped ones (forsaken) or, possibly the hag wyrm unit (dragon ogres), one of which you can see below. I think I'll need to work on drool for this unit. I may add smaller worms to the bases for these too.

A fantastic idea executed with skill and style! Those 'bog mummies' are especially inspired. Can't wait to see them all finished up.

Yeah!  :-* This project is really brilliant and it's nice to see you are keep 'em coming.
Great work on the new half dead and filler. I loved the big stone of the previous unit too.
Curious to see what you will do with that big worm! :)
keep going!

Thanks folks, the encouragement is... ah... encouraging!

I'm right in the middle of movement tray painting for the half-dead right now, which will look great when done, but man, is it boring. To break the monotony, I've started thinking on another new unit, this time to work as forsaken in the game. Enter the Warped Ones, fimir berserkers essentially. I worked up some fluff and mocked up a quick tester. The forsaken kit will come in super handy with these boys, should I decide to do the unit.

The Warped - Na Buile (The Rage)
There are some fimir so attuned to the powers of the earth that they are able to innately channel these forces to bring on a terrible battle rage known as the warp spasm. Their flesh swells and distorts into new and terrible shapes as the battle-lust builds within them, their bodies sprouting new limbs or terrible weapons made of bone and claw. Only a few fimir are blessed in this way, and are seen by the clan as amongst it's greatest warriors, always first to the line and usually in the thickest of the fighting. Once the blood-lust is upon them they see only the enemy and the feel only the desire to see his blood flow and his bones shatter.

Some of these fimir have small leystones embedded in their armour, or even their flesh, to make it easier to bring on the spasm. There are risks to using such methods, however, as at the height of the conflict some of the warped find they cannot control the earth power and can warp out entirely, their form growing immense and awful to behold, their minds reverting to pure animal instinct.

After the battle the warped soon revert to their normal selves, but those who have warped out and yet survive must be captured and caged, often for days, until the earth power ebbs back into the ground and their minds clear enough for them to be allowed rejoin their fellows.

Nice fig! I don't like so much the new gw forsaken unit :? but maybe, with the purpose of converting fimirs, there are some useful bits.
BTW, I really appreciate this little background text. IMO if everybody spent some time to share the background of their creation it would be a better world :D

Thanks! I'm tinkering with assembling a few more...

My first unit of fimir monstrous cavalry are starting to come together too, still riderless, but I like how it's looking.

I've spent some time lately with the less glamorous work involved with the army, most notably movement trays. I'm really happy with the resin trays I'm using, they look great, but man, are they boring to paint. They even need tufts, moss pads and water effects added.

Once I was done with the latest tray, I'd nearly turned myself off painting moss, mud and heather for life. I decided a little painting remuneration was in order. I've been looking forward to painting the unit filler for the half dead for a while, the fimm slaver, so I decided he was next up. Ironically, he is on a very detailed base, with an abundance of moss, mud... and... ah... heather. But there were spiders and mushrooms too, so all was well.

Anyhow, here he is! Now I return to painting up some more of his leathery charges.

GREAT LOOKING STUFF, both finished & in progress! The combo of a great paint job with a wildly evocative base makes the newly completed Whip Wielder an OUTSTANDING piece. VERY WELL DONE!
