I have to say, you do a very nice blend on your nags... Do you use oils when you paint horses?

Exciting to see some of your stuff again  :-* I actually have that first picture as my desktop background - It's a very evocative scene.

I agree fully on the otherworld. Absolutely awesome miniatures.

Many thanks, chaps, much appreciate your kind comments :)

Never used oils, Peder, wouldn't know what or how to do with them. Just spent more time as usual :)

Wow, my picture as desktop background, now that's pleasant news, thank you :)

Yes, Richard did a fantastic job on that range. I still can remeber buying the very first Otherworld figure, that famous idol (which btw will make its appearance here as well at some point). Now it's one of the most beautiful and evocative Fantasy figure lines out there.

Today as promised some photos of the giant from the picture before. You know, that big guy, hiding himself in the dark. Very lovely miniature, from Ral Partha, 1979. No idea who's the sculptor? Tom Meier?

Fantastic miniature - and painting to match!

That is indeed a lovely (well ...) giant. And yes, it's by Tom Meier.

I love how these old figures are content to rely on scale for their effect, rather than being sheathed in steroidal muscle. They're all the more menacing for their understatement. And the deliberately non-human proportions really add to the look; he's a little like a Bauer troll.

Agree on that. It's very disturbing sometimes to recognize how much the direction and so to speak ways to express things" of sculpting have changed since then.

Thanks, James, I've actually tested some painting techniques, I've learned in a Massive Voodoo workshop. Like the result so far.

Painted the young lass some years agot and all the time waited for an opportunity to get her into a picture with something big :)

Thank you much, Fram!
