The timberworks are just balsa cut to the right sizes, right?

I wish I could find a supplier of cork of the type you (and Matakishi) use, but at least I have found a place to buy foamboard relatively nearby  :)
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Yes, just balsa wood. I’ve got my cork from the local hardware store, there are the cork tiles, nothing special, cheap and easy.

Nice one!

Thanks for illustrating the build process - maybe building your own detailed looking buildings isn't so onerous as I might have thought!

Great looking building, and it's gone up so quickly too. I really like your roof tiles, what are they made of?
Very impressive all round, can't wait to see it with some paint on.

I’ve just read through this entire thread. Your work is absolutely amazing!

You’ve also given me a basing dilemma. I love the look of your bases and I would love to base my fantasy miniatures on coins now that I’ve seen yours. However, I’m also about to embark on a journey down memory lane and paint a load of old school citadel miniatures. So I want to base them on square slotta bases to preserve that 80’s/ 90’s look. But after seeing yours I really want to base them on coins. Aaaargh! What to do  :'(

That is a beautiful building. Will you be applying anything onto the cork for texture? Or does the cork already have enough texture?

Thin MDF. Drove me crazy to cut them.

Is it that important, the 80’s look? :) I always found the square bases really ugly and the only reason I did them in the early days was for gaming (Warhammer etc.). I’m glad I have been able to come off that dilemma.

I think cork has enough texture but I‘m going to  prime it twice because the first coat soaks in.

Lovely! My first thought (about the roof tiles) was that you used coffee stirrers, how wrong could I be lol

Looking forward to seeing the barmaid being painted too ;)

It is possible to get 2 mm cork too - 10sqm in a roll for just about € 20  :o
That might be an easier solution for cutting into roof tiles?

This shop also has cork tiles for about €23.50 per sqm (I guess it is 10 30x30 cm tiles or so) - is that an OK price (I have NO idea of the price level)?

 :o  :o

You just gave me a wonderful thought for building up a good collection of civilians:
"Everytime you finish a building, paint the inhabitants/users/attendees/whatever that goes with it!"

I shall make this a maxim. Will slow my gaming frequency, but will raise the quality of my setups!  :)
Needless to say, sometimes one or more inhabitants of a house can be fighter(s), but still...

Coffee stirrers would be an easy alternative and I would love to use them (quite less work) but they are a bit too thick for the purpose.

Barmaid, not sure, probably will be painted though I don’t like the mini very much. But maybe to give you some pleasure :)

Well, 2mm cork would surely be easier to cut then 2mm mdf. Might really be a nice alternative.

Though 23,50 EUR for 30x30cm tiles is a bit too much for my taste.

It is probably about €2.35 per tile (1 sqm for 23.50), but what is the normal price in Germany? I'm planning to bring the trailer next time we go to visit the in-laws near Haderslev, and then go south of the border to do some shopping.

If I can find a builders' market/hardware store, I might bring back some dense insulation foam, and even some cork, if it is cheaper down there.
