Frau Totenkinder's army: Battle Pictures added Feb24
« on: October 08, 2011, 08:30:58 PM »
Now that the Belgian Liberation Army,  http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=31983.0    is up and running, I couldn't resist starting a second faction. Not that I need it for the campaign we're running, but I always feel I want a 'playable game' in my collection.. which means if I have an army I feel they must have an opponent, in case I move, want to introduce a friend to the game, etc. And I am probably addicted to starting projects  lol

So I had the idea of modifying Frau Totenkinder, a character from the comic Fables by Bill Willingham and place her in a new setting.

She is far more than the frail elderly woman she appears to be.  Much more.  Her exact nature is unknown, but some truths can be guessed about her.  If she ever was human, she has not been for a very long time.  Her exact age is unknown, but undoubtedly she is older than a thousand years, and perhaps in some form or other has always existed.  She has skipped across history and human awareness like a stone across a pond.  Now is only the most recent manifestation.  This secret is known by only a few. Others would be more familiar with her as various 'wicked witch' characters from fairy tales.  But she is no fairy tale.

Her background continues here: http://laughingferret.blogspot.com/2011/09/frau-tottenkinder-force-to-be-reckoned.html

She is seen here with one of her creations, The Gingerbread Man.  As his name suggests he is very fast.  A bit fragile but with lots of attacks and a fiery heat breath from the oven of his creation.  She has shaped many such creations, as well as captured human souls to weave into extensions of her will.  More of these will be shown soon  :D

She is also the new commander of the German Ahnenerbe which now has it's own military force.  Here are some of her troops:

I've done a few updates on the blog for these.  If you'd like to see more background information you can find them by the tag 'Totenkinder Force'.

Thanks!  :D the rules we're using are mostly 'screaming GI's' but modified to have alternating unit activation sequence and the 'weird & super characters' is inspired by the Chaos in Carpathia & similar titles but the exact system has been evolving to fit in with the rules for the troops.

Very interesting.

I really like a lot of the Dust minis.  I have more soldiers coming up and a walker.

Nice idea.

Perhaps she is the fact behind the fiction of Baba Yaga?

I wondered that too.  I expect Baba Yaga is more like a sibling spirit... but on some level further up, perhaps they are both aspects of a more primeval  spirit that encompasses both of them, and others.. just as Totenkinder has her extension creations? It is possible.

There is a lot more of this background information on the nature of such beings in the most recent update, which covers the next two characters in her army. So if such fictional mythological pondering interests you, check it out here:

and more pictures of them are there too, but here is the pair, Goldie & Baby Bear:

it looks as good as I expected from your descriptions.

Just think of the walker Baba Yaga would have.

This project is hilarious! And it looks excellent. Inspiring stuff. I liked your simian Belgians a lot, but I love your fairy-tale Germans.

Blackwolf: I love those kindred minis! If I had built this army as British I definitely would have used those.

Thanks Tomogui!
