My first "SuperPaint" attempt : marvel heroes and villains

He is from the first 'clix set ever and there should be about a million of them going for a pittance on Ebay I would think.  Destined to be on the wrong end of a super-powered knuckle sandwich for eternity.

I tried most of the classic technics for plastic figures with no success (and no patience, to be honest), and finally used some acetone. I know, it's a technic for metal figures, but it worked pretty well on my heroclix figures, except for a few ones which "peeled".

I used an old toothbrush and rubbed the figure with acetone. I also made quick (a few minutes) baths of acetone, but it's a dangerous technic, since some figs seems to react diferently than other ones.

The technic seems to soften the figures too. But it seems to become harder again after a day or two (I don't have long term feedback since I stripped off the paint yesterday and this afternoon, I never did that before).

Anway, I will not be responsible if you ruin your figures using that hardcore technic.

I've used straight acetone and a toothbrush to clean old GW RT era Orks which had obscene layers of paint - made them look new. Very fast work is required!

Your figures look AWESOME. I'm going to pick some up because of you! And strip them!

Do all the series have this level of detail?

Heroclix supers are overall really nice, not depanding of the series. Of course, I've got my favorite ones.

The only thing you have to be carefull is the scale, if it's something important for you, because depanding the series, a human shaped mini size can vary.

I usually prefer the old marvel (and first DC) series for my customs. They have this classic look wich works really well with my cartoonish, saturated painting technic.

It's good someone bumped this topic. It will motivate me to work on my project

The blank lining technique you're using really works wonders on these. Definitely enhances the "comic-book" feel of the figures!

I'm happy you noticed my effort on this effect ! It's what I wanted, give the mini some comics book look and feel, but keeping a bit of shading and highlights.

The future of this topic will be in smaller scale, even if I'm not saying I will not paint a couple of heroclix one day. I still have a few figures undercoated, ready to paint.
