Glory of the Sun moves to North Star
« on: October 31, 2011, 09:48:02 PM »
Hi Everyone.

I'm very happy to announce I have bought the range Glory of the Sun from Copplestone Castings. The Glory of the Sun covers the Armies and Enemies of the French King Louis XIV, in the early period 1665 to 1680.

I have renamed the range North Star 1672, and I'll be expanding the range with designer Steve Saleh to cover the packs that are missing to finish the armies. Steve has just made the first pack of Cavalry Command.

I've put the range on a 'Hurray for North Star' price for the next two weeks, it'll be back to normal price on the 14th of November.

Dave Thomas will have the range at Crisis in Antwerp this weekend, I'll be there as well.

Cheers
Nick Eyre

Hmmm. Weird.

I mean, good for you, obviously Nick, and good that the range will not only be available, but added to by the excellent Steve Saleh.

But peculiar that the range that Mark started with such immense enthusiasm just 3 years ago, hit the buffers and ran out of steam so quickly. Such great figures too. I have a few painted examples if you could use some pics of painted product...

Can't help feeling it's a shame the great man himself couldn't, or didn't want to, see it through...  :?

I have to agree with the captain and I am glad I didn't invest any money in this range when I first saw it.

Looking forward to the new packs though, perhaps I can finally start my Scanian Wars project, and be able to finish it.

We have dedicated time to getting the range done. Steve Saleh is now part of the North Star team (he has his own desk!) and does a couple of days with us, and finishing this range has taken precedent over the African Adventurers we were doing with him.

Any suggestions are gladly received, at the moment we are planning:
Cavalry Commands
French Dragoons
Artillery
Generals and Personalities
Flintlock armed musketeers
Armoured cavalry (helmets and breast plates).

Regards
Nick

Congratulations Nick. Sad indeed, always had extremely good customer service from Mark, best turn around time of any UK manufacturer bar none in my experience

Want list? Well a year or two back Mark promised to make some Spanish. They really are a must have for the period and make for a colourful army.  Fortunately the musketeers could be a ready conversion using the existing dollies for the French, remove the ribbons and add a  coat length lapel to the coats.  You would want some new pile but again the French could e your start point with suitable change to headwear. Obviosly some cavalry would be needed but I see you are already planning helmeted cavalry. Beyond that...

Some head variants for the French pike.

Grenadiers for the English. My existing figures are mostly repainted as a Restoration army.

Grenadiers for the French.

Personalities. Turenne, Condé, Monmouth etc.

Good luck with it all , I look forward to doing business with you.

I know the range is mainly for larger battles, but surely there's room in there for a pack of swashbuckling characters for each of the main nations?

Flashing Blades, Gloire and the like are crying out for more figures!

Once we've got the army basics done, we are very keen to do what we call vignettes, which of course includes character models and civilians.

I would love to see some militia/armed peasants. Both with hand weapons, like pitch forks and pikes, and muskets.

Bit of a late time period for him isn't it?

Civvies always go down well for skirmishing and set dressing  :)

The historical D'Artagnan served in the Dutch Wars and died at the seige of Maastricht. So he's on our list already. MC said the French Guard Cavalry were still wearing tabbards in the Musketeer fashion so we may get to them.

Quite true.

Although this may seen superfluous at first, I'd like to see some advancing types for the infantry, as the range only offers three standing poses so far (pikeman at order, musketeer firing and musketeer at porte). While this makes for very tidy-looking units, it also makes them look somewhat static.

Of course, new poses mean new dollies, which may be more expensive to produce. But perhaps one advancing pikeman dolly and one similarly advancing musketeer figure with fixed plug bayonet could add some variety to the range. Though of course you'd have to produce matching command figures.

It would also be nice if Steve could be persuaded to do a couple of extra horses to add some variety. And I'm definitely waiting for the French dragoons as these are my favourite mounted troop type.
