Thanks for the comments gents! I will try and get a full London board done. I'm planning on a 3x3 with the Thames embankment on one side.

I've finished sculpting the lion. I've bulked a lot of it out, namely the mane and I felt the back legs needed a bit more. Anyway this is what it's supposed to be...

....and this is what I've got...

I've just got a wee plinth to make which should take about five minutes and that's it.

Looks great :-* :-* :-*
I have some of that dolls house mouldings you were talking about on that other thread. Might be useful for the plinth. You can pick it up tomorrow night at DnD if you are coming?

i couldn't do any better myself so this is just constructive criticism, bloomin hell i can't believe i have written that, its more that the lions head could maybe slightly more upright and proud, but like i say my attempt would look like a walrus or something so no offence meant its just an observation to a project that is looking ney on perfect.

Cheers Colin I'll pick that up tonight then.

I would never take offence of someone posting their view. It's only my second sculpt and I need as much help as I can get!! If I was critical of myself I would say the proportions aren't right, the back legs still don't look good, it's a bit rough and, most importantly, the more I look at it, the more it looks like a big shaggy dog with its tongue hanging out! lol lol

I need more practice me thinks!!

So let me see...Big Ben, Nelsons Column, four lions and a smashed underground train...

All waiting to be cast up and sold you say...hmmm...

Let me know when they're ready as I'll need an excuse to dodge the Mortgage that month, but I'll be waiting oh yes...I'll be waiting...Poor Mrs. Goat, she's still reeling from Salute.

Stunning work.  Want one of everything.

the more I look at it, the more it looks like a big shaggy dog with its tongue hanging out! lol lol

A few specific possibilities:

I think the muzzle's a bit oversized; the end of his "face" should taper a bit more. And he looks thin because his ribcage seems to have vanished (notice how the back half of the torso is actually the wider half?).

The back legs might be a bit small too, but it's hard to tell from those photos, if you compare the thigh and haunch on the left in the first picture and the second picture, the greenstuff thigh is much lower. But in the third (overhead) picture, it looks much better, so I'm not sure there.

hehe i would agree with you that the tongue needs trimming, but second scult ever, then as before you are impressive with your range of abilities...............you could leave the tongue tho and just name him dougal after that dog on magic roundabout. he must already have some sentimental value to you.

I couldn't agree more with the first part, the face is too big and i think the whole body needs beefing up. After finding other pictures of it today, it looks a lot thicker in the body. The first two pictures are of the model at the same stage, it's just the angle of the photo that makes the difference.

Grade:Must try harder!!  :D

 lol lol

Please don't use me as an excuse to Mrs Goat! One woman beating me up is enough!! ;)

One trick might be to look at things like Disney drawings of lions, because everything is broken down into simple shapes and planes.
