New GW Vampire counts models
« on: 28 December 2011, 10:51:33 AM »
Haven't seen them here yet, so thought I'd to just share the previews of GWs new vampire count models.

I'm not so sold on the wraiths on horse and the Vargheists. Instead of the Vargheist I'd rather use the following models from Rackham, of which I bought a few when they went bust:

I'm also not yet sure what to think of the crypt horrors. Parts of me like them, but not specifically as a unit of undead. I'd rather turn them into something else and use some undead Ogres :)

The black Knights and the Coven Throne/Mortis engine, I do like. Though not specifically the way the ghosts are painted.
Why aim for gold if you can get lead?

There is some nice stuff in there.
I quite like the Coven Throne/Mortis Engine kit, although I have no use for it, it is still a nice kit.
The new version of Isabella is a vast improvement on the previous incarnations.
The best of the bunch, in my opinion, is the Vargheist kit. I can see a lot of people finding a use for that.
With a little conversion work that Vargheist kit would be perfect for my Mordheim Vampire!
Now to getting my hands on just one of them.....

ditto! Vargheist seems perfect to become a possessed for a Mordheim warband  >:D
Finally they made a new black cavalry! Seems a nice kit too...
but...ZOMBIEs? WTF! A new gw zombie kit I'd really want!

I like the Coven throne, the wight king and Isabella. I just know I won't dare to buy the latter as she'll be finecast.

There are some really cool pieces in the mix...I like the new skeletal horses. Fortunately, it looks, from the one price tag I could spot, that they're beyond my humble means...a sigh of relief arises from my wallet.

Apart from the Black Knights (that look OK I think!) it's a bit over much for me.. not surprised really.  ;)

I really like the concept of the ethereal host - it is really using plastic to advantage. Isabella is nice but if it is a finecast model I won't bother.

Funnily enough, that is one of the sets that I don't really see as overpriced.
23.50 euro for 5 horse based (nice looking) undead cav or rather a bit less if buying online might look steep, but it will leave me with the torsos for 5 wraiths or other hellish burning miniatures :)

Not sure what you're getting at there.  lol

What I meant was that the knights were nice and the rest was a bit too much - not price wise but too high fantasy for me.  :)

Some of them looks good but the Throne/Engine is way to busy looking for my taste.

yup.. for me that's been the problem with the latest GW plastic kits for some time now. Same goes with the other models having too much details. But nice conversion parts in those kits. Not my cup of tea though.

I do like the varheists and Isabella. The knights look like Goombas from the Mario films.

I'm in the "too much filigree" camp here.  Also, with each iteration, GW's models become more specific to the Warhammer World, and of less use to people like me who want something more generic.  I'm also not keen on the undead looking like steroid-pumped bodybuilders, rather than lean and hungry, which rules out the big winged ghoul things.

Shame about Isabella, though.  Looks like a nice sculpt, and if it had been in metal or produced by someone competent at resin casting, I'd have been interested.
Back from the dead, almost.

Go on then, how much does a parent have to pay for their nine year old kid to have a throne/engine that will not even be put together correctly let alone painted?

I take it they are pages from White Dwarf? I have not seen a copy of that for years and years.
