Since Trumpeter Con in Vancouver last April I've had the Strange Aeons freebie bonus figure of HP Lovecraft lurking on one corner of my painting desk. It's not, to be honest, the best figure from Uncle Mike's, being insanely tall and thin compared to normal 28mm figures and in a very, very static pose - very upright, both arms in tight around the torso or chest. Every time I looked at it I thought, "Statue... one of these days..."
Then I screwed up the measurements on one of the roof structures I was building for my Russian church, and was left with a half-inch-high box centered on a two inch by two inch square. Perfectly constructed, but to the wrong dimensions. I also had a small pile of other mattboard offcuts from the church project, which I had, with standard-issue gamer's magpie instincts, been resisting throwing away for two days already. Hmm, says I, statue base?
And lo, there was a flashing of inspiration, a joining of scrap parts.

And a terrible late-night camera image, hastily cropped down.
That's Major Vodkanovitch of the Volunteer Army just in the background for scale purposes, if needed. (28mm Brigade White Russian)
Needs paint, of course. That might happen before I get up for a third glass of wine, but perhaps not.
