Skulldred and bederken Returns!
« on: February 01, 2012, 06:19:33 PM »

Finally have had time to complete Skulldred beta 3.2.
This is a huge, huge revision with all 145 pages rewritten, condensed and streamlined- returning popular beta 2 concepts like Dreadskulls and the action die, and adding a totally new magic system with mana dice pools and the power to create your own spells by mixing spell effects together.
Damage has been streamlined too, with 'defense' attribute (how many hits of damage downs you) which you double to get the hits needed for an instant kil.
I am trialling a D8 based system for this build, so it can be cross compatible with Stardred, have more room for character development and hell, a fist full of d8 just looks old school.

If your on the beta list, you will be receiving your links sometime in the next 24 hours.

I also met up with Nic Robson at Cancon and handed him a tub of new Bederken greens.  I should be announcing new releases shortly!

Great to be back!

Now this sounds exciting. Any chance of jumping on the beta test list? Did we try any of these rules out when we played the other day?

Yes we played 3.2 rules but we where still deducting hits from hits- the idea of straight defense I actually thought of whilst your wife was munching merrily through the last of my chaos lords with her face eating dragon lizards.

Email me and I will add you on today.

Looking forward to your crone mini too!

Did some speed recognition tests with d8 vs d6.  Amazing difference.  If your bored, really bored and I mean really, really bored, try rolling 8 dice and picking out the dice that score lower than consecutive numbers (1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,1,etc).  Time yourself over thirty repeats and compare, then do this over and over again to get a good mean, and... wait, you dont have to... because muggins here did already.  Result?  Reading spotted D6 wins by a mile over reading d8.  Both red, both with white numbers.

D8 version hereby axed.  Long live the ever so speedy D6.

:)

I am just working through the mailing lists now... even more repetative fun.  Hope someone puts me up for a games design award for all this hard work.  ;)

I'm really looking forward to the beta! Even more so the hard copy release :D
Any rough idea when you plan to release it? (or rather would like to, best laid plans and all that..)
I *think* I am on the beta list (well I sent back a legal form at any rate).
Let me know where to vote if one does come up..

Current schedule release date for the Skulldred Core Rulebook is sometime in March 2012.

I am pretty sure your on the list :)

Heres some eye candy from The First Ever Skulldred Game at Cancon...  Asgard (Viking Forge) Dragon Lizards(sculpted by Nick Bibby) vs. Grenadier Giant (sculpted by Mark Copplestone).  A bob Naismith Chaos Warrior is sitting in the middle wondering why he got up this morning.

Good call. I've played around with d10 myself, but ended up with 2d6 for the predictable curve and the little more granularity it gives over d6, but as you say, accessibility is the most important element.

The latest Beta is looking fantastic - will definitely have to get a game in some time soon - just pointed out the family friendly section to the wife...

Nice looking game at Cancon too.

Just skimmed through this latest release: in a word, excellent. Reads very smoothly, and seems like all the playtesting and streamlining has paid off in this version of the rules.

Really makes me want to hit the tabletop with a small but vicious band of fearless murderers. Anyone with the slightest interest in fantasy skirmish gaming owes it to themselves to at least take a gander at this,

Welcome back, Dave. Great seeing you back, here.

Haven't had the chance to pay much attention lately (my last version was ver. 2.05), but glad to here it's finally getting there - and will look forward for the final book. (Btw: Will there be a downloadable version, too?)

- but perhaps even more excited about hearing that new BeDerken's is coming. Spell toads, Dwerg burrow guard, dubious treasure chest, zombie dwarf, maze goblin, overconfident halfling, trollkin shaman and a few Dwerg personalities ...! - better start saving :D

This thread has just made me curious about the game.

Is the beta you are talking about an open beta, or closed one?
March is not that far either though, I guess I can wait if it's not open.

Considering all the positive comments I am reading here, I could give this game a shot.
