The best book that I have seen is Ritta Nakanishi's Japanese Military Uniforms 1841-1929, although it covers the Navy, too. Japanese text with English translations.  ISBN 4-499-22737-2.  No idea of cost or availability.

Thanks for the info - one last question if I may.

I like the back packs but looking at the pictures I can't tell if the belts  that would support the back packs are moulded on the figures or need to be added.

No problem. The choice was made to leave the shoulder straps off as it would be easier for the gamer to add them rather than to take them away. A few people won't mind either way (I fall into this category  :) ).

That's the one I have and most of the reference came from it. It's a great resource  :)

Thanks very much - You are certainly right that removing them is harder than adding them. I tried it with some Perry plastics and that was................. not a success  :)

Looking forward the comparison shot.

Comparison photo as promised.

Figures in order are...

'New' Foundry Victorian civvy; Copplestone BOB Chinese; my bugler; my infantry; 'Old' Foundry Pathan; Perry ashigaru.

All the figures are on 25mm dia 2mm thick bases (apart from the ashigaru, who is on a 20mm square base).

Of course when they are cast they will be a tad smaller but I think they size well with other manufacturers.

Any more questions will be gladly answered  :)

cheers

James

That's good. In fact the Japanese should be a tad smaller compared to the Russians.
