According to this page, it was bases on the mbt-70. The link has a comparison pic and the resemblance is obvious.

white knight, great find

if the mobat can't be done due to costs howabout a Wolverine missle tank for the joes? it's roughly the same size as a hiss maybe slightly larger but not as large as a mobat

I think I'm going to have to recreate the battle of Springfield USA circa 1987. with all these great vehicals. the suggestions people have givin for cobra troops are great what do you guys think about the joes. I'm thinking of Empress miniatures, Hasslefree minis, mongrel minis, and chronoscope (along with lots of conversions) any other suggestions for 1980 pulp military figures? I'd like to keep it early joes before all the neon uniforms popped up.

Honestly I think Korean war U.S. GI's with some alternate helmets/rifles would do the trick.  The basic joes were pretty...basic.  Very hum-drum uniforms.

I can tell you there are two variants of the Vamp ready right now. There's a Vamp Mk II, which comes with a missile pod/rack, and a Vamp with no rear deck weapon. You will probably see a Stinger as well.

I do currently plan to do a Stinger to go along with the Vamps. Most of the work is already done, after all.

One of the problems with some of these is price. An APC is a big model, so you can imagine how much much Shapeways would charge for such a monster. (I might be speaking out of turn here. I should let Mike make these comments, but he's out of town right now.).

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Shapeways prices goes up very quickly when a model's size goes up. I've looked at doing a Mobat before, and have held off because I'm not sure how expensive it would be. There seems to be a lot of interest, though, so maybe I'll give it a shot and see how it turns out. I'll also start doing some research into some of the other vehicles mentioned and we'll see what happens.

Can't you just do a mockup to get a general idea of the volume/price? Like, don't worry about getting the angles of the panels exactly right, or adding details. Make something the approximate shape and size, make sure the wall thicknesses are correct, and check it.

Is there any chance of seeing a 28mm Heroic HISS tank next to a figure?  If it is large enough to be used as a Leman Russ, I may have my next project...

Unfortunately I haven't been able to afford one yet, so I haven't got one to show. I want to get one someday, but that will be a ways off. I still need more Vamps, Fangs and Snakes.

You can still find the old Aurora MBT-70 in 1/48 scale on ebay.

Indeed, I bought one last night. It's close enough to be recognisable as the MOBAT with the right markings and not so expensive that a shapeways model would be a better deal.

Much better that Mike concentrates on some of the smaller, more unique models if he has the time and inclination. 8)

Eagerly awaiting the HISS, FANG and SNAKE models I ordered too.  :-*

I know these are fairly recognizable, but thought they might make a good addition to your Joes.  I know I'm ordering a set.
