Looking for 28mm odd, creepy, horrific, aliens
« on: April 16, 2012, 09:37:43 PM »
I am looking for some 28mm odd, creepy, horrific alien miniatures or what ever you want to call creatures that fit more in with a sci-fi horror theme like Alien, The Thing, Event Horizon, etc. Originally I hoped to get some of the Horrorclix Alien figures, but waited too long and now they are hard to find and rather expensive. I considered heavily modifying hormagaunts so they are not as easy to recognize as tyranids.

I do have the Hell Dorado Demon
http://www.helldorado.fr/ressources/factions/faction/figurine/image_figurine_id139/image_url_figurine.jpg

and I thought about the most recent OOP version of Pink & Blue Horrors as they look good in some of the Thing posts I have seen, but I'd have to hunt those down as well.

So the scenario will change depending on if I end up getting more demonic like figures or nasty hand to hand aliens. Any suggestions would be welcome.

thanks

Kryomek from Scotia grendel will sate your 28mm alien needs no end, that and GW plastic nid's can't go wrong there. For 15mm nothing beats Kurashan's space demons. Lovely minis.
Now water can flow....or water can crash...be water my friend.

Something off the top of my head...

There are many tentacled monstrosities somewhat similar in style to the HellDorado demon thingy among the Lovecraft-inspired miniatures, although most of them don't have any human features if that's what you'd prefer. You can head over to the Call of Cthulhu section of the forums to pic up clues for those.

Some Reaper demons and monsters might work, although it may be difficult to find the ones you want from their catalogue. Here's what you get with word "aberration":

Urban Mammoth's Koralon range has a few unpleasant "chaos mutant" types:
http://www.urbanwarthegame.com/acatalog/Koralon_Blister_Packs.html

There are several other miniature lines that have a random monstrous hybrid here or there, and some Starship Troopers style alien bug thingies can also be found but listing those would require a bit more work than I have time to spare for right now... Sorry - maybe later!

I converted GW bloodletters to use as aliens:

They're no longer as cheap as they used to be but they are readily available and easy to do.

EM4 also has some alien types:

On a different note East Riding Miniatures just released the Bob Olley Cyber Claw Aliens which are a completely different type but IMO utterly fantastic:

Let me hear the battle cry
Calling on the wind
Let me see the banners fly
Before the storm begins

The Bloodletters idea is ingenious and effective, Pil.
Back from the dead, almost.

Megaminiatures have some Cthulhu beasts which would work well.

Went through some of my links and found the following that might or might not be applicable:

There are a few more Cthulhoids that I didn't bother listing as they can be better found through the appropriate section of the forum.

There are a few bits here that may take your fancy, namely the Kiergi and Meesans...and even the Aquatic Troll:

Some of the beasties featured on the Troll Forged site (www.trollforged.com) are pretty awesome.
from Mr.Vampire: "It's the paintjob that makes the miniature fight harder not the size."

Found a "Ben 10" Wildvine figure in a charity shop last week - looks promising.
Pound shops tend to get remaindered lines, so I'm hoping they might appear there soon (they must be out of fashion by now)
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

I am doing well. During my 3 year break from gaming, while playing roller derby, I let my Oubliette blog slide  :-[. So I recently started a third version of it.

Here is to starting a new project and getting back to older unfinished ones from 2009 :o
