Loving the paintjobs on the minis but not the bases, (not the painting but the senic resin) as they don't scream london cobbles to me, that is just me at the end of the day and as I said, your paintwork is very nice and clean.

If you were after some nicer bases remember that Fenris games have a nice mix that will reall suit the project.

Cheers

The Commander

At the start of the thread I mentioned that I had a bunch of Malifaux bases I was going to use rather than waste them, as my games aren't JUST set in London find them more than suitable personally.

The Fenris ones are OK (I have a lot of them too, and my Pulp City/Eden/Dredd Miniatures are based exclusively on Fenris and ) - but a little "flat" and even looking (more like brickwork on a building).

The Vampire Wars Miniatures are kind of oddly posed (actually so is the new EotD Holmes) so the split level of many of the Malifaux bases make it easier for me to re-pose them.

Also the Fenris Cobbled bases (as are other manufacturers) are way too ordered to have a true Victorian Cobbled effect - the original street cobbles were much more haphazard in shape and layout (you only have to visit chatham historic dockyard to see what I mean, it has genuine Victorian cobbled streets).

When I've run out of the Malifaux bases I'll have to sculpt and mold my own I suppose.

Aware of where you got the bases from as I read your first post, just not my cup of tea me old china, we can't all like everything old chap! ;) (Oh and I'm from Kent and Fenris games are actually 'based' (pardon the pun) in the historic dockyard so I get to walk those cobbles first hand!  ::)

(As you say, Ian stocks a massive range of different scenic DS bases, including split level etc... so again probably worth people checking them out)

Anyway, I will continue to enjoy your painted figures and try to ignore the parlor palms and broad leaved grasses growing out of those bases.  ;D

I've not done a great deal hobby-wise in the last few days, the real world REALLY got in the way - and I've been Ill (again!).

Still, I've finished some writing (the Cult of Sutekh, a "Mummy" themed Faction for Empire of the Dead) - and I'm feeling a little better now.

Re-Basing some more Vampire Wars miniatures tonight, and watching Dracula AD 1972.

Ho Hum!

Mr. Ashley A. Ashcroft (before you mock, its a real name of someone I know LoL) - was a well respected Architect, his house and garden designs were renowned throughout England and Wales.

One day he was called upon to renovate a very old building, when he and his work team were examining the foundations in the cellar - one of his labourers was attacked, he died quickly after having his throat horribly torn out.

It wasn't long before Ashcroft came face to face with the Vampire that had been trapped down there, feral and decrepit Ashcroft faced the terror and killed it in spite of his workers fleeing in terror. Harker, hearing of Ashcrofts encounter (and his apparent natural talent for killing Vampires) quickly recruited him into the Ranks of the Slayer Society.

"He'll do" seems to be my constant remark about my own Painting, but this bugger was troublesome. I simply COULDN'T get him finished - I had a bad mental block over him. Still my "core" Regular Members are done - everything is gravy from now on.

Johann Van Helsing is Dr. Abraham Van Helsing’s adopted son. He was left on Abraham’s doorstep one night, and the secretive vampire hunter could find no one to take the child. Though he tried to keep his affairs with the Slayers private, Johann was an inquisitive boy and eventually joined the cause. Abraham saw to his training himself and apprenticed him to the Brotherhood to further refine his skills.

I tried really REALLY hard to get the eyes "just right" but a combination of the face actually being slanted (only having one of these I can't tell if its a casting error, upon saying that I have to admit both sets of claws were miscast and they've been re-built using plasticard) and the bloody brim of the hat means I was stuck with what I could achieve. But on the table the brim of his hat covers the upper part of his face - so I needn't have bothered really.

Great thread  :D
and meant to comment earlier: I think all the browns work great with Holmes. I've been having some fun recently with color-deprived schemes and really been enjoying it, so your Holmes gets my vote :)

I tend to decide on colours before I start - and "try" and stick within a specific palette as a (literally) painfully slow painter, it makes things easier for me.
