My 450 pt. Ice Goblin army for SBH
« on: 06 February 2008, 01:33:02 AM »
This is why I love Song of Blades and Heroes (well, besides the great rule system).  I had this idea for an army and, with no muss or fuss I was able to create it for the game.  So without further ado, the Ice Goblins of the Phoenix Barony...

ICE GOBLIN ARMY LIST
By:  David Bezio
For Song of Blades and Heroes, Copyright Andrea Sfiligoi.  This is a fan project and not a challenge to his copyright.

To the far north of the Phoenix Barony, in the wilds of the arctic Black Mountains dwell the blue skinned Ice Goblins.  While usually content to warring among their own kind, on occasion, a rogue war band deserts their Ice Giant lord and seeks his own fame and fortune in the lands of the south.

Foes facing the dreaded Ice Goblins find them hardened by the harsh climates of the north.  They are much more resilient and less cowardly than the common Goblins of the barony.  Armed with barbed swords and bolstering their forces with timber wolves, the savage Yeti, and herding giant rabid penguins, the Ice Goblins are a force to be reckoned with!

That was a really tough decision.  Since I have no plans on building a snow play surface and most of my opponents would be based for green grass, I decided that conformng would look better on the tabletop.

Still, snow might not have been a bad idea...but it's said and done now anyway. :)

You HAVE heard of global warming, haven´t you? ;)

Looks great, and a funny theme. Don´t see such too often, and it´s really well done this time.

Love the rabid penguins.

Someone on another web site had to point out to me that birds can't be rabid.

Just kind of funny to point out something like that when it's a fantasy army and NOTHING is real anyway.  It's all just for fun. :)

grubs,

Does this mean we won't be seeing any LotOW game reports or updates?

Yeah, sorry.  I actually converted the SBH rules to wild west (it didnt' take much effort).  I like that rule system much better than any mini game I've ever played.  So LotOW is dead before it started...but I'm having fun, and that's what counts...right? :D

absolutely!

I was just hoping to see that wonderful terrain put to use.

Looking to off-load it?  :)

Right now I'm using it for my SBH wild west games...but to be honest I'm thinking I'll have to part with it (or some of it anyway).  See, I live in a small apartment, and will for a few more years.  I'm finding (as I get back into mini gaming) that I really don't have room to store mini terrain anymore.

So yeah, I'll probably eventually have to part with it.  I'll probably put it on eBay.  I'm not usually a money grubber, but I wouldn't mind getting top dollar for all the labor.

Well, on the strength of this, I bought Song of Blades and Heroes, and the dungeon expansion. Looks like an excellent game, very well thought out. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

And until now I thought I was over the whole Fantasy gaming thing!

Oh, and I'm very interested in the Horror and Future War skirmish games with the same engine coming out this year. They look really interesting.

Great warband, I love the paint job!  A nice imaginative way to use a variety of minis and pull them together under a cool theme.

Have you thought of making icy patches of terrain (don't have my rules with me but I think SGD has slippery terrain rules)?  I found some plastic sheeting at the hardware store that looks like an icy surface and was able to buy a nice sized chunk of scrap for about $2.  It's pretty brittle, but I think will work ok for ice.  If I ever have the time to finish them up and can borrow a camera I'll post an image.
