A couple of days ago I was at Ikea to buy some bookshelves and while I was there I looked around to see if I could find anything useful for gaming.

I picked up an artificial plant and when I came home I ripped it apart and tried to make some stuff and this is what came out of it:

Based on washers, sanded and basecoated.

Retained Canlastrian troopers defend a bunker complex. (Here you see the second bunker I made).

And WIP of some alien plants made from melted drinking straws.

Looking good. I should be on the lookout for building materials this saturday where I am sadly forced to go to Ikea.

Also. Happy birthday Jonas.

Unless you're out for the entire weekend you ought to join us in Aulum.

good looking things Jonas. I plan to attempt some melted straws akin to warrenabox's at some point in the future. maybe you can give me some pointers.

Yes, I already can tell you not to do it inside, hehehe, smelly and toxic thing.

And Dr. Zombie is of course welcome to join in some gaming fun over the weekend, maybe show a bit Skulldred?

We managed to get some playtesting done today. Just a small game with 5 models pr side.

The playing area. Two small patrols from the League of Canlaster and the Prydian Army run into eachother on their recon missions.

The Prydian forces, led by a minor noble of the knight rank.

A Baron fighting for the League of Canlaster leading his men.

The Canlastrians fire some indirect fire from their Moth Multilauncher, hitting two retained troopers, killing non of them but wounding one.

The Prydians target the Canlastrian Baron in the distance and lay down a hail of fire, whiping him out with some armour piercing ammo from their Moth Multilauncher.

The Baron just before he falls lifeless to the ground.

The Canlastrian troopers return the fire and gives the Prydian noble a wound.

While the Canlastrian Moth Multilauncher cuts down two of the Prydian troopers and halfing their unit.

After this point the Prydian noble activated his jump jets to get away from the line of fire and we agreed that the game had ended in a draw.

We had quite some troubles playing with the Moth rules. We both agreed that it was a fun enough game, but the rules are just not very well written and lot of things seemed unclear or strange.

I think there is need for more playtesting before dropping the Moth rules, but I am not convinced that this is going to work out and become a ruleset we will use regularily.

We still love the models and the setting though  :D

At a Danish forum I saw a guy building some desert rocks for Gorka Morka. I decided to try out and do something similar, but it didn't really end like I would have wanted to.

First I found some cd's for bases and I cut up some cardboard boxes.

I glued the stuff together and already here I ran into problems. When the glue had dried up the cd's had warped, but they could easily be broken off and reattached, so first problem solved. Next time I will wait with gluing the cardboard on the bases untill they have dried up.

Next I filled up with some filler and glue.

This is what it looked like next day. Quite useless and I had run out of filler.

Since my budget to do these rocks was nothing I shifted to use my good old tile adhesive.

Sanded the bases.

Basecoated and so far everything looks ok to me.

But after I painted the rocks up in a couple of different colours I ended up painting them like my bases.

I am not really satisfied with the looks, but I don't know what to do different. Maybe they will look ok together with the rest of my stuff.

I think the problem is they're too consistent. Based on the shape, you'd expect horizontal striations/layering in the colour and quality of the stone.

Yep, on Earth the rock spires tend to look like that. 4-X:

OTOH the mini versions look more like oversized mud volcanos, possibly formed under less gravity than that of Earth so they might look better if finished off more @ the "sanded the bases" stage:

I ended up re-painting them one more time (I think I tried 4 different schemes now), they ended up a little better.

But I am pretty sure I can do it better next time. I deffinately have something to improve on, thanks for the suggestions.

Sanded the bases.

Y'know, on that stage the peaks were looking much better! I think that the rough texture of the sand is too much for a raw drybrush! Better to keep the colours softer!
