I mentioned on the Warzone forum how the nostalgia just kills me for this game. I just don't have the willpower to try to build any new forces for fear of having to over-pay for minis on evilbay to finish a force cause they are RARE!!!!1!one!! Out of Print !!eleven!1one! and all that.

I've been tempted to give it a go again too, but I'd play it very differently now. For me it was always a little too closely modelled on 2nd ed 40k (in particular the sort of force you took and the fact that there was no particular narrative to the gameplay) so I'd play it as a more detailed skirmish game at the scale and detail of Necromunda or similar.

@Andy H: Yeah, I also blame those damn GW bastards for anything lol ;)

Curse them for producing a game people wanted to play!  ;)

In all seriousness though, Warzone was often marketed at people who didn't like 2nd ed 40k anymore. A friend of mine who worked in the Design Studio was at a games show and was approached by a guy running Warzone participation games and told "no one plays 40k any more, come and play the game that's going to make it obsolete." Obviously he didn't know who he was talking to, or that 3rd ed was just around the corner!

Shame really, as I'd have liked to see both games do well as they're both very close to my heart.

By the time I was still into Warzone I had nothing against GW - I knew no Warhammer gamers and GW stuff was MUCH more expensive than Warzone (especially here in Poland).
The sh!t got thick when GW started increasing prices, decreasing amount of minis in boxes and all in all in ended with failcast... o_o
Shame really - there was a time when the company was concentrated more on gamers than the money.

The Spawn's Claw was a 1999 Archangel's. I also miss 1999 as I traded them all away... On a bum deal if I recall as I never got the minis I traded for. Ah well, such things happen.

I really need to have another game soon.

Only Warzone work I've done in the past year was putting my Hurricane Walker back together after he had a bad fall off the game table like five years ago.

I got into Warzone to get away from 40K 3rd edition and well... The players as well. They took 40K to new levels of 'sirius bizness' and the games became tedious displays of temper tantrums with a rogue's gallery of sulker-gloaters. After I ditched 40K and started playing Warzone, it's true that I got less games in but the games were by far more enjoyable.
I did start playing 40K again with some friends years later and we had a good time and I had the realization that it's never really the game system so much as the company of the people you play with. But, heck, the switch to Warzone and subsequent dissolving of Excelsior opened the flood gates to a ton of independent companies that might not have otherwise got my business had I not been so dissatisified with Games Workshop.

Edit to add: Yeah, those 1999 minis haunt me, probably the worst trade I ever made. Especially considering I got burned on top of it all.

My only remark: you need more cannon fodder: in fact you need any cannon fodder

It's also what I thought, as a warzone fan. Personally, I prefer v1 edition. Same thing for Chronopia (I've got the complete range of chronopia books).

Your razide on first page is inspiring. I also have tons of warzone minis (and chronopia) to paint. Mostly imperial, capitol and dark legions. A few years ago, I made the mistake selling a trenchtroopers complete squad...I was stupid.

What I like in target game range is the fact the figures are all metal. Good old days, even if the sculpt quality vary from one model to another. But the overal range is nice, with a very special style.

Same thing for chronopia. I recently bought a lot of Stygians, these figs are really cool.

Nice work again ! Can't wait to see more of it.

With such pics hijack as much as you want :o :-*
Cannot believe after ~14 years in the hobby I didn't get the Legion force painted, instead I've been washing minis off and repainting endlessly... :(
