Start of a WWW2 project
« on: June 19, 2012, 03:31:14 PM »
Hi all,
I've been painting some figures for a WWW2 project I've finally got around to starting, so far I've only painted a few figures, but it's a beginning. I found an excellent guide for painting Brit Paras, and it was surprisingly easy to follow, here it is;

http://www.napnuts.com/gallery_bamparaguide.htm

And here's the Paras so far -

Here's several Allied Heroes -

And here's the first German -

A couple of things I've noticed: even though I have an expensive camera I can't take decent pictures to save my life ( :D ), the other is that my ability to paint faces has really gone downhill. A few years ago I could paint them really well - perfect eyes, eyelids, crows-feet, etc., now they look like badly drawn cartoon characters!
I am happy with the clothing though, I seem to have got all the colours right anyway.

I do have a question - should the german in the greatcoat have the collar patch as shown in the photo, or should he have it as a shoulder patch?

I'll be using these with rules of my own devising, based on the Victorian Horror rules I've been working on (see - http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=30516.0 ), which still aren't anywhere near complete.
For the Allies I intend to paint up about 20 Paras, 15 Resistance, and about 15 or so different hero types, and for the Germans I have about 50 soldiers, 15 heroes and 20 creatures. I guess it'll take me a while! Luckily a lot of the creatures will also see use in the Victorian Horror games too.
Games will be based on small Allied forces raiding Nazi installations, assassinating VIPs, destroying convoys, etc. with typically 20 or so figs a side.

That's all for now, Cheers.

Early greatcoats had a plain bottle green collar, the epaulettes were also bottle green, but with a thin line of waffenfarbe, white for infantry.  Later on, as with everything, they would have been plain grey.

Nice start, looking to do a similar thing in the desert.  Artizan figures are so full of character.  :D

Thanks for the comments. I've finished the bases on these figs, so will take some more pics when the weather here improves (just spent two weeks in Orlando visiting the Disney parks, the first week we had torrential rain - Sunshine State my arse - then I come home to yet more torrential rain!). I think I'll re-do some of the faces, especially on the Allied Heroes, as I'm just not happy with them. Then I'll have to crack on with painting some more figs.

I'll be painting up the rest of the paras first, possibly with the odd hero or german, to break up the monotony. Then onto the Nazis and their various monsters. I'm thinking of getting a few zombies for the nazis, probably westwind figs as I don't want loads of them. Then it'll be onto the rules.
