Re: Grim Fairy Tales project, new pictures 18/07 The story of Snow White
« Reply #30 on: 18 July 2012, 05:54:10 PM »
I added the promised pictures of the D&D "wandering" monsters in the post above...better late than never ::)

Plus you may have noticed a change of thread title. Now that I have a picture to post of the first of my character groups I thought it about time I "owned up" as to what this project is all about.

Grim Fairy Tales is my attempt to build a narrative gaming world populated and inspired by a lot of the characters from the stories of the Brothers Grimm, but not as you may remember them. Players will get to adventure in this world, and interact with/undertake quests for the storybook characters

So here to give you an idea:  the adventure of Snow White.

Snow White as a vengeful sword wielding paladin, her Prince and 7 brave dwarves. Fighting against forces summoned and controlled by the evil queen/stepmother and her minions.

Nice work on Snow White and the gang.
Am tempted to do something similar after I saw "Snow White and the Huntsman" ;)

Oh! Usually I'm all over the bad guys and monsters and ignore the white-hats... but the idea of a Snow White warband is absolutely ACE!

All very nice but the standard bearer conversion really caught my eye - very simple but pure genius

Thanks, I have the Queen and the first of her forces underway now, hope to get them done over the weekend.

:)  Then Red Riding Hood and Hansel & Gretel will be much more your thing.

I am still working on the storylines for Rapunzel and Rumplestiltskin.

Small update on some new figures for this project. Still on the "Snow White" adventure section:

The Evil Queen/Stepmother

Reaper Dark Elf. Very tall and sinister looking.

The Queens Huntsman. The "Bogeyman" is a common trend through many genres of folklore, a generic "evil" character who takes away naughty children. Here is one incarnation of said figure, a truly wonderful sculpt from Heresy.

I have taken the route that the Evil Queen will have evil fighters and hellish beasts at her command (Evil fighters like Thugs and Marauders rather than Cultist types). Several D&D Abbyssal types will be making appearances here:

Abbyssal Ravagers, WotC D&D Chainmail miniatures.

Abbyssal Skulkers, more WotC D&D Chainmail miniatures.

Then a suitably large Treeman for the Witches summoned forces. This one from UltraForge, the Tree Lord.

Next up will be some bits & pieces for the "Witchfinder" sub project, Blinders, Nochtelinger and Barghests.

Absolutely beautiful.  A top-notch workup of an original idea. Love it!

I may well be having a closer look at the WotC D&D range.
It looks like there are some great sculpts in there.

That was explained somewhere, it's... a World of Warcarft Pre-painted plastic figure.... slightly converted if I recall correctly.
